I just picked up a copy of the first issue for $ 5 in the bargain bin at Chapters in Montréal without the CD or packaging ( someone must have torn it open and ripped off the CD Ermm ). The guy who owns the magazine store across the street had this problem. People were ripping the outside packaging open to have a glance at it and then the CDs got lost, the mag got tattered from people browsing through it and he ended up having to send them back to the distributor as damaged.
My impression from the first one is, as I said earlier, too much rehash on older bands and too much about newer bands which aren`t really prog bands.
They have to get rid of the CD and the packaging if this thing is going to succeed. Don`t go for my juggler. Just my take.

First Impressions !!

I have had the magazine in my hands for the last ten minutes and here is my first impressions:

Behind this commercial cover, you find a very informative interview with our M@X at page 16. You will also find stuff about Dave Stewart, VDGG, Bill Bruford, DT and more of "our" bands. There are some reviews here too. But then again; so have PA..... I can see myself reading this magazine from front to back. Which means hours of interesting reading and then a good reference source for the coming years.

I am not going to knock it. My first impression is very good. But I guess that's open for debate. Both my personal preferences and this magazine.

4 stars from me based on the first impression.

Sounds good - a full interview with the great Guru (praise him from whom all blessings come) Max, eh?

Raff - they have, apparently, increased the amount of copies held direct from the website, which is Future Publications. Try this link: http://www.myfavouritemagazines.co.uk/

I find it quite expensive at about £7, but given that it is the only publication that is providing a pure prog read on a regular basis, deserves our support.

Tbanks a lot for the info, SteveThumbs Up! We both liked the first issue, and this one features an interview with our Captain, M@x - so it's really a no-brainer for us.

Apparently the first issue sold out in quick quick time - from speaking to other people, it seems the most reliable source in the UK is W H Smiths.

+++

Had a quick glance through the new issue & seems like a good'un - half page feature on PA & Max in particular which should get a few more hits to the site.

Is it possible to reproduce the PA article here because it seems that there are  news agents here in Montréal won`t be carrying it for one reason or another. One guy told me it was because of the price another guy tells me he hates dealing with the CD thing. Chapters/Indigo/Coles is not carrying it but the girl didn`t know why. I got a price-reduced first copy sans CD from Chapters for 5 bucks about a week and a half ago.

I believe you can order the magazine online to be shipped to you for a cheaper price than it would had cost you to buy it in a shop. Link in one of the posts above.

I don`t buy ANYTHING using a bloody computer.
I just don`t think this mag is going to fly for a number of reasons from what I`ve seen with the first issue. It is just too similar to their regular magazine which I`ve bought from time to time. I`ll keep an eye on the bargain bins.

Well, a bit of misunderstanding in the interview but I am planning on associating the site with some Festivals, yes.

Compilations CDs, a project, yes, for independant artists seeking exposure!

Was that just a tid-bit of the interview? Is there a full interview page, or is that it?

Either way, its damn cool that Progarchives gets some brownie points. Good to get your name out there too Max!

If we, the users of PA, supports it, it will fly. We will also manage to get the magazine where we want it. So this is our oppurtunity and 1-in-100-years-chance to get a magazine we like. So out of pure solidarity and support for the scene; buy the magazine.

Besides of that; the magazine is a bloody good read too.

I really do not know if we understand what a nice oppurtunity this magazine is for us. Grab it with both hands and get behind it ! Then we can discuss among ourselves if Muse og Gong are turds or not.
