if any new band should be included in the archives, it is Exivious.... I just got their debut yesterday in the mail....and well it smokes! To me it is like a mix between instrumental Cynic and a heavier Holdsworth.... simply stunning. (Fusion) Metal album of the year for me, without a doubt!

they also had the rehearsals from their short-lived reunion in 2007, the release "those who caress the pale", and "coiled in obscurity".... they are way out of print or only available online, so do a blog search or something, you will find them. Also, Virus is just as good as VBE, if not better... |

Out of all of Carl-Michael's projects, I think Virus is my favorite. Both Carheart and The Black Flux are fantastic. Carl's musical sense is so wacky. Great beer drinking music.

There is a french brutal death metal borderline with tech death : Benighted. Their album 'icon' sounds very good. There seems to be a lot of good tech death bands around recently.
I am currently listening to Elvenking, a metal band that is somewhat interesting for the fact that they sound like a mix of Helloween, Rhapsody, Apocalypse (swiss thrash metal), Blind Guardian, Mago de Oz, Skyclad. Truly one of those rare metal gems. Their demo 'To oak woods bestowed' (the one I am discovering) is amazing. They would be a good addition to PA.

I have reviewed the Exivious debut.... don't know if I did it justice, and I am obviously pimping the hell out of it, but I feel it deserves the praise I am heaping upon it.... this is a stunner and (easily) leading the pack in tech metal of today (if you ask me)...

Agreed. If you were to take a look at his myspace page, you would see the wide-ranging, diverse, and exceptional (even recommended!) influences he has. They all make sense when you throw them in a blender and come out with Virus... one of my all-time favorite metal bands ever! I think Carheart has the slight edge here over TBF though...

I actually like Virus more than VBE but they both rule. I just got a physical of VBE's Written in Waters which is cool.

I have the Candlelight reissue version of Written In Waters. I love both VBE and Virus.... (as stated )
I think more people need to investigate Fleurety (if they are fans of VBE and Virus).... severely under-rated band!
all of their stuff is worthwhile, if hard to find... but definitely worth it. very good stuff!

Yes, I know no cookie monster growls, no blast beasts therefore not the kind of music qualifying for "prog"
Maybe with this one I should have more success (it's sort of technical death I believe) :
