Topic: Favorite Metal Drummer Posted: May 04 2009 at 16:58
This is a list I just made off the top of my head. It is composed of some of my personal favorites, as well as others I could think of that are pretty good. I tried to get some from all genres of metal. This is was off the top of my head...and I am sure I left a lot of worthy ones off.

I'm gonna go with Kollias. His blastbeats are unmatched in creativity
and speed, although my favourite metal drummer ever is John Merryman of
Cephalic Carnage.
If you want your head to be completely blown, watch this video.
AAAAhhhhhhh Tomas Corn of Lykathea Aflame I believe? I actually thought about putting him but did not know if anyone would recognize him! One hell of a drummer!
With those options, I gotta go with Reinert, though I wouldn't call him a pure metal drummer. Hoglan is a beast and for a man that big he makes it look simple.
Oh yea, I tried to vary the list and get drummers from all over, that play at least some type of metal.
Glad to see some love for Rullo and Hoglan, but I am a little surprised there are no votes for Martin Lopez. Also, don't let Fear Factory fool you! Raymond Herrera is one hell of a drummer!

Actually hold on... There's this guy, right, called Bobby Jarzombek, and he's a hell of a drummer as well. I reckon he's up in the standards of the listed.

I chose Portnoy, but not just because of his work with Dream Theater. He is quite a driving force in the band's dynamic, but I admire the tightness and conciseness of his drumming more as it appears in Transatlantic's music. I think you should edit the poll options so it also mentions that he drums for Transatlantic.
Of course, there's a lot more Dream Theater out there to sample for his drumming technique (I can't wait for the new Transatlantic album!), and also, he isn't really a -metal- drummer in Transatlantic, it being a chiefly progressive group. So, it's probably fine the way it is.
