I know there are folks here who get advance promos of albums and sometimes post reviews, but this one isn't out yet and if anyone should have gotten a promo it would have been me - and I didn't!  Ouch

Worse yet, neither of these ratings has an accompanying review.  And the most egregious offense here is that I have had both the CD and vinyl on pre-order for nearly three months now and am waiting patiently for them to ship on Tuesday - I deserve at least a shot at posting the first legitimate review!  Angry

Note that every freedomfire review I've found is a copy of an earlier review (and I know that person has been reported before).

Fantômas
2 stars Overrated... Genesis released two great albums before this, listenning all the three together with this it's easy to see that this is really overrated... Progressive Rock, no doubt about it, but not as good as the fans want it to be. Dancing With The Moonlit Knight, Firth Of Fifth and After The Ordeal are the only tracks that are truly good. Dancing With The Moonlit Knight has a very nice guitar solo, and a good vocal melody. Firth Of Fifth lasts more than it should, but, again, the solo make it worthy. After The Ordeal is the best here. Amazing keyboard theme, a very pleasant flute work, and, better than anything, NO vocals. More Fool Of Me and I Know What I Like are cheap pop tunes (not every pop tune is bad, but these are), Cinema Show is a extremely boring track, but Battle Of Epping Forest is even worse! Aisle Of Plenty, well... Rather mediocre, getting the melody from the first track. Not bad, but i wouldn't recommend... Get Foxtrot and Nursery Cryme, then get Trespass... Don't mind about the others, unless you really liked those three.

5 stars Alright, if you want to exprience Pink Floyd to the MAX there are a couple things you should purchase

Darkside of the moon, Piper at the gates of dawn, Animals, Wish you were here, Suacerful of secerts, Meddle, The Wall, and LIVE AT POMPEII

One of my favorite live performances. Has alot of wonderful songs. Not only is it live but it is mixed with several interveiws, one in which Roger Waters is really stoned and can't figure out what the guy is trying to ask him. Mademoiselle Nobs, filmed in france, is a blues song with Roger Waters playing acoustic guitar, David Gilmour playing harmonica, and Richard Wright holding a mic over a dog named Nobs while it barks through the whole song. Its pretty cool. Over all the whole thing is more like a documetry with live clips in it.

Get off the computer and buy it now. Or order it online. Either one, get it.

5 stars This is Heavy Metal! From whatever part it is wanted to see it this Heavy Metal! "Speed King" is not perhaps pure Heavy Metal? And "Into The Fire", "Living Wreck" or "Bloodsucker" is not the Metallica will do 15 years after? This is pure energy. Finally "Child In Time", together with "When a Blind Man Cries" the Purple ballad. "Child In Time" is a stratospheric piece. Be is a very dramatic song. Immense album!

2 stars After many many years of wanting to buy this album, but always getting something else, I recently purchased this album. I have to tell you, it was a disappointment. It not that Collins is singing and Gabriel is not (that goes without saying); it’s that the musicianship of the band is really lacking on this album.

If you compare the versions of the songs found on this album and Archive - Volume 1: 1967-1975, you will quickly hear the difference. The band, at the time of this recording, couldn’t hold a flame to it’s old self. Perhaps Chester Thompson wasn’t as comfortable in the band was he would eventually become. Perhaps Phil Collins is a much better drummer that we even give him credit for. Perhaps Steve Hacker knew his time was limited and really wasn’t putting his heart into it. I don’t know, but you’re better spending your money buying Archive - Volume 1 and Trick of the Tale, than purchasing this album.

2 stars The live performances on this set adds very little to the songs. The studio versions are superior and the live versions stay too closely to the originals to offer anything new. Worse, there is way too much of it. A single disc would have been fine. My advise for Yes fans is to borrow this from a friend and burn a single CD of the best songs. Anyone else should get the excellent original albums instead.

5 stars In my opinion this is one of THE greatest albums ever released.Had it been issued as say a Pink Floyd or Yes album then everybody would be raving about it.But unfortunately because it was released with little promotion by a then obscure artist it hasn't received anything like the credit it deserves.Everything about this album is excellent. The production on the original record was amazing ,and the additional instruments and re-mixing on the c.d.version enhance the project. The performances by the guest artists are all superb, in particular John Miles (The Cask Of Amontillado),Arthur Brown(The Tell- Tale Heart)David Paton(Doctor Tarr and Professor Fether)and my favorite track on the album ,Terry Sylvester on (To One in Paradise). The opening track (A Dream within a dream) begins with an atmospheric minor chord sequence gradually building up then emerging into The Raven, with its eary vocoder effect. The first time you hear this you're in another world. As the tracks unfold into different musical directions you get the same feeling as say Sgt Pepper or Pet Sounds so far as it takes you totally somewhere else. The first side of the record version ends with a short instrumental montage' of the earlier tracks. Then comes side two- The Fall of the House of usher, wow! If the first side had a few surprises then what about this! This piece runs through many movements ranging from the most beautiful melodies to something out of a horror film. The score by Andrew Powell is fantastic and the integration between the orchestra and the rock musicians is wonderful. The track ends with an absolute demolition of sound.Just when you think its safe to come out of the water. Boom they're off again, only this time the carnage melts into the superb To One In Paradise.I could go on and on about this album, for me its an absolute gem so if you havent checked it out already then believe me you need to.

3 stars One should think that with the killer epics Close To The Edge, Gates of Delirium and Ritual, three of my all time favourites, this couldn't go wrong.

Unfortunately it seems like they don't think that the orchestra is able to play anything faster than eighth notes. All the songs moves too slowly. There are great moments, Ritual probably the best, and And You And I works fine. However the orchestra is not given enough confidence, the musicians, both Yes and the orchestra, seems restrained. Great sound though!

Also I can't believe that they included so much filler songs (Long Distance Runaround, I've Seen All Good People, Owner of a Lonely Heart and Roundabout) and omitted all the cool songs (Perpetual Change, Siberian Kathru, Heart of the Sunrise etc.). And the new songs are unnecessary in this context.

The animations are cool under Gates of Delirium, but overall they are amateurish.

Not a great performance, but no damage done since you still got the studio versions, Yessongs and Yesshows.

5 stars There are not many things to say about this album but hat is with dark side and wish you were here their peak. The first thing that someone will notice is the music that is structured in a more complex way than it used to. The three long tracks are filled with great guitar work and trendmark sound by Gilmour who gives his best themes in this album. Technic and passion coexist in a magnificent way. Another thing that must be mentioned is the dark mood of the album made by Wright and waters who uses his bass in a more melodic way. The great lyrics are highlighted by soundtrack like sound which gives a theatrical touch overall. Finaly I found that the vocals can only be compared by those on the Wall.

A must have for every prog fan. Pink Floyd fans have allready got it.

5 stars Masterpiece! Nearly as good as "Dark Side of The Moon"! This album have two of Pink Floyd's best songs: "Shine on your crazy diamond Part 1" and "Part 2". These songs are just fantastic and are the main reason to buy this album! "Welcome to the machine" is a great mechanical space-like piece. It's a excellent song (in my opinion). "Have a cigar" is a typically mid-70's rock song but not as good as the songs i just mentioned. The Title track, "Wish you were here", is in my opinion, a overrated song that i usually skip everytime i hear this album, but it's still a OK song, but nothing special! Overall this is a brilliant album from Pink Floyd and i recommend it to all serious prog-fans!!!

Review by marandprod

4 stars Firstly let me say I just ran across this site and I'm very excited about its existance.

Now on to KLAN, I am a huge collector of Polish Prog, Psych, and Freak Beat--- KLAN was one of the best in their field. They were formed in 1969 after the splintered break-ups of assorted groups they were in. They were fans of Vanilla Fudge and Brian Auger and The Trinity, so you see that the outcome was a bit twisted. They were signed to tour with other like-minded Polish experimentalists, BREAKOUT which got them a record deal with Pronit/Muza.

They released the impossible to track down 4 song 7" ep "Gdzie jest Czlowiek" (Pronit EP N-0586) 1970 Translated: "Where is the sparrow?"

"Mrowisko" (Muza LP SXL 0756) 1971* Tranlated: "Ant colony"

*This was reissued in the 80's on vinyl and in 1991 on cd (Digiton 103).

The group broke up in '73. Members went on to work for Warsaw Operahouse musicals, etc. In 1992 vocalist/guitarist Marek Alaszewski release a new cd with 6 new members. The magic of course was gone...

"Po co mi ten raj" (Digiton 129) CD Translated: "What will I do with all this celebration?"

It should be "Where is the man". "Człowiek" means a "(hu)man" in Polish not a "sparrow".  LOL Can you fix this funny mistake?

"Music is much like f**king, but some composers can't climax and others climax too often, leaving themselves and the listener jaded and spent."

Eastvillage's review of Anekdoten - "From Within" must be a mispost, as it actually refers to Anekdoten - "A Time of Day". This is made even more obvious because he posted the same review on the correct album here a few days later.

This review has already been posted for another Anekdoten album ( A Time of Day http://www.progarchives.com/Review.asp?id=203834) and correspond to the content on that album. Seems like an accidental error to me.

I already reported the Anekdoten problem, but I guess my reporting of the problem got lost before it was dealt with.

Just an observation - Progfan1958 has added reviews to both the UK albums, the review (#210619) for the first album (UK) is the correct one, however the review (#210618), for their second album (Danger Money) is a duplicate of the first review, an easy mistake especially when you copy and paste from a word processor, I'm sure Progfan1958 has the correct review and is probably oblivious to the error that has been made...

Both written by the same guy, http://www.progarchives.com/Collaborators.asp?id=20292, not sure if it's a abuse, but both of the reviews stated above, say actually the same, some few changes in the names to make sense, but he really just copied and paste.
Not sure, if it's allowed, though...
