1. Selling England by the Pound
2. Nursery Cryme 3. The Lamb 4. Foxtrot 5. Tresspass 6. maybe Trick of the Tail? I don't like any of the other albums as a whole, just certain songs. I used to have Lamb at the bottom of the list but it's slowly crept up to my top 3 |

1). Nursery Cryme
2). Selling England By The Pound 3). The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway 4). Foxtrot 5). Trespass 6). A Trick Of The Tail 7). Wind And Wuthering It's a hard toss up between Selling England and Nursery Cryme as number 1... Because the really great songs from Selling England ("Dancing With The Moonlit Knight", "Firth of Fifth", "Cinema Show"-into-"After The Ordeal"), are four of the best songs they have ever done, and arguably better than the best moments of Nursery Cryme... But the weak points interrupt the flow, and can be just annoying. (Case in point "More Fool Me", parts of "Epping Forest"...) However, in my opinion, Nursery Cryme doesn't have a weak song or moment on it. I think it's just a flawless album, every second of music is enjoyable to me. And it has SO much character. So to me, Selling England has better songs, but Nursery Cryme is a better album. I will say that SEBTP has probably the greatest and most emotionally fulfilling endings of all time... |

1. The lamb lies down on broadway
Just great, and the storyline still trills me after all those years, some super tracks too.
2. Selling England by the pound
Close to no. 1, just a great album too.
3. Foxtrot/Nursery cryme
Some of the best tracks on both, but hurts that the sound is very "old"
4. Trick of the tail/wind and W
Only albums with colins i can consider Genesis, rest is another band, on the other hand those two i realy
like and still listen rather often.
5. Trespass
Not consistent, but it has some moments

1. SEBTP (Dancing with the Moonlit Knight may be the best prog song of all time, only rival is the CTTE title track) Firth of Fifth, Cinema Show are also great. 2. Foxtrot (Watcher of the Skies is my second favorite Genesis song, Supper's Ready is Supper's Ready, I like the rest much better than the "in-between"s on Nursery Cryme) 3. Voyage of the Acolyte - Might as well be the Genesis album between Lamb and Trick 4. Nursery Cryme (great moments but this one is hard for me to listen to all the way through) 5. Genesis (shapes) - this was the second album I owned as an 11 year old after Michael Jackson's Thriller. I didn't know anything about popular music other than the 60's stuff my parents had. I practically memorized the album. I know it has it's very significant weaknesses but it's part of my history. 6. Abacab - Second Genesis album I owned and I did enjoy parts of it. I don't own any of the other albums, though I've got the great "Dance on a Volcano" and "Los Endos" as individual tracks on my iPod, not sure if the others are worth buying yet. I suspect I'd put Trick above Nursery Cryme I've listened to Lamb a number of times but never got into it enough to buy. "You got to get in to get out" is a great melody and line though. I've only heard "Wind and Wuthering" once or twice many years ago.

You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. But you are only quite a little fellow, in a wide world, after all.

Dear Negoba:
Congratulations for your sincere choices, I understand them. However I recommend you pick up Wind & Wuthering again and listen carefully. I think it will be quite rewarding. Best regards Tarcísio

I've been listening to a lot of Genesis these past few days, so maybe I'll give this a shot. The current order somewhat accurately:
1. A Trick of the Tail (could be one of let's say top 40 best albums ever if the second side was as good as the first) 2. The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway (my newest purchase from them, might turn out to be their best album and the best prog double album ever when given more time) 3. Wind & Wuthering 4. Selling England by the Pound (Epping Forest is not the horrendous album ruiner it was in the past, but still the weakest with I Know What I Like.) 5. Trespass 6. Foxtrot 7. Nursery Cryme 8. Duke 9. ...And Then There Were Three... 10. We Can't Dance (has some great pop songs despite being rated lowest) Haven't heard the rest but will some day. At least the missing pieces between Duke and Dance. edit: And a little tip for the reader: in this above text; best = my favourite Edited by Keppa4v - March 19 2009 at 14:42 |
