well, i 'am not familiar with emo much, the one i ve heard on mtv is total crap. aren't moving mountains post rock, i ve seen them labeled as post rock, i haven't heard  them yet.  never heard of Weaver at The Loom

When I used the term "emo," I was referring to what I grew up knowing as "emo," bands like Mineral, [early] Sunny Day Real Estate, Texas Is the Reason, The Promise Ring, etc.

^I love Sunny Day Real Estate's second era, but I do have some nostalgia for that early stuff too.

Emo is a word that has become twisted in it's meaning over the years really.
The real deal, true emo had it's origins in the mid 80s and was heavily based off hardcore and didn't sound anything like the crap they call emo today, which is just watered down pop punk crap that is only remotely related to emo.
There was none of that stupid 'emo' fashion back in the good days of true emo, it was about the music first and foremost, while today's garbage is about selling as many records as possible, conforming to a style of fashion and in general, being sh*t house.

I freaking love emo, but as with many people, I hate what it became and how the term is used today in the mainstream.
The fashion, the stereotypes of self harming teens, the tight jeans that cut off circulation to your 'man parts' and kids walking around in groups in this 'uniform' of 'emo clothes.
Oh and those freaking Converse shoes that aren't even that comfortable, I don't get them either.
I can pay 40 bucks more for a set of good skate shoes that have 5 times better comfort and more air cushioning *shrug*
I just don't get it, because that was never what the real spirit of emo was originally about.

As far as I'm concerned, real, proper emo just doesn't really exist anymore, at least not in anything more than the underground now that the mainstream crap took center stage.
After the "Second Wave" of emo ended, that was the end of good emo really.

Screamo has gotten a bad name too, from the fans that ruin the genre by dressing like retards and all that.
I like both emo and screamo, but you don't see me wearing makeup, I have a beard, I love playing metal on guitar and listening to it, no one says you have to dress like an idiot to like a genre, but kids just dive in and follow the trend because it's what's hot at the moment.

Heh, they were cool back in the day, but they got ruined by everyone starting to wear them.
They cost 60 bucks in Australia, which I find pretty absurd considering I can get a pair of really great skate shoes for 40 bucks more that last a lot longer, have better feet support and cushioning and keep water out of your shoes instead of having you socks soaked when you step in a deep puddle.
But then again I'm partly biased because I needed that type of shoe because I used to be heavily into skating and anything less than a good high quality, 100 dollar pair of shoes is not going to last long or provide the kind of shock absorption you need for skating.

Yeah it's all a look thing with the Converses for me too. Love the simple classic design. If I want comfortable shoes I choose skate shoes as well even though I don't have a board. Though my motto when it comes to clothing is "f**k fashion, I wear what I want", there's a part of me that wants to wait until the craze is over and I'll be the only one on the street wearing them. But then it's going to be that damn shoe hunt across the country again

^I wouldn't spend too much time looking at emo stuff, but I highly recommend Sunny Day Real Estate. Their first two albums were somewhat pioneers in the emo realm, and then the band broke up, only to reform a few years later with a new, refined, almost proggy style. It's all good stuff.

Just get some Vans...now that's comfort...anyways, Post Rock/Almost Metal band LONG DISTANCE CALLING is releasing their second album "Avoid The Light" In April 24 if I'm not mistaken. They have a new on their myspace and it sounds good to me.
