i will be here always and i know that i will learn a lot of things from you ... and absolutely you will learn about turkish progressive rock from me... if i can help you i will be really happy ;)

see you soon ;) i have to sleep now :D :D   (and sorry about my english, if you can understand there is no problem :D )

Hi Dervisan! I'm only aware of Replikas, which is excellent and has a page on ProgArchives. What other turkish bands would you recommend?

replikas is a young band or turkish pschedelic rock .. if you want some young names i can say ; babazula, anima, çamur, çilekeş, düş sokağı sakinleri, kurban, pilli bebek, siya siya bend....  they are really good underground young bands of turkey... and i really like that you know replikas Smile

BUT..... their music is all based from the masters of turkish progressive pschedelic ethnical rock... who are they???   (i will tell these names more detailed later because they have a lot of bands and details because they have done really different music with all bands) i will send some links and you can see some examples of them -i think it s more easy to listen from youtube- i will give you some rapidshare links too Wink

i can say that turkish progressive pschedelic rock was nourished from the anatolian tradational music and the modern rock sounds .. that you can hear they have used the tradational turkish instruments in the songs... it s the difference of turkish psch and prog ...

i can generally say that ; cem karaca is the biggest name of progressive , erkin koray is the biggest name of pschedelic... when you listen them you can understand it easyly... Smile

Merhaba arkadaş Smile
There's much more to Anatolian Rock (the "original" Tongue) than just "the anatolian tradtional music and the modern rock sounds"... for instance, classical music (which is obvious in Cem Karaca's early recordings with Ferdy Klein & Werner Müller) and modern attempts at electronic music (Baris Manco and his 2023 - 2024 - 2025 trilogy)
and I believe calling "Garip Coban" the first turkish progressive song will be unfair to a couple of other tracks, maybe some from the great Baris Manco, but specifically "Dag ve Cocuk", which itself came just before this one, by the same "Mogollar"

There's a lot to write in this issue, anyway! That is, "bu pilav daha çok su kaldırır Wink"

(PS for the uninitiated: I'm a big fan of all the bands/artists Dervisan mentioned, with the possible exception of Bunalim. I've been trying to promote some of those acts in progarchives for some time; well, at least half-heartedly anyway Big smile)
Listen to Turkish psych/prog; you won't regret:
Baris Manco,Erkin Koray,Cem Karaca,Mogollar,3 Hürel,Selda,Edip Akbayram,Fikret Kizilok,Ersen (and Dadaslar) (but stick with the '70's, and 'early 80's!)

i am writing Dervisan now in "Suggest New Bands and Artists" i am on the most wonderful part ;  "yoksulluk kader olamaz" LP....

and there is 3 different mind about the first anatolian rock song; 1) tülay german -burçak tarlası 2)moğollar-dağ ve çocuk  3)moğollar-garip çoban... it s not important but i prefer progressive one Wink garip çoban...

because i really hate "anatolian rock" name... i think this period include prog folk or psche folk character but now you can see everyone say "i am an anatolian rocker" so if it s not based with prog or psch it can be a only sh*t LOL "lümpen baba onlar lümpen"... progressive pschedelic tabanı olmayan ve anadolurock oldugunu iddia edenler yozdur..ve "kahrolsun yoz müzik" biliyosun işte Wink yıllarca kullandım dahada kullanmıyorum... anatolian progressive pschedelic ethnical rock... allahım fransızı biliyomus söylemiş Big smile

Hi, Dervisan!

I think it's good to have Turkish prog here. I don't know much about it, the only CD I have is BUNALIM and I like it a lot. I also know Live Journal user from Russia who is deep into Turkish music (including rock). So there is a lot of things to discover.

^ Perhaps it was not released in Turkey, but BUNALIM have a CD, released by German label:

I know the band never had an album, only singles. CD contains 12 songs from 1970-72.
There are short bio (in English) and photos in the booklet, including the nude picture you've posted.

Here is the announcement from record label (http://www.psychedelic-music.com/psychedelic1.html):
CD
BUNALIM - Same, Turkey 1969/1972 (SHADOKS 078)
CD: in jewelbox.
One of the most amazing Turkish music ever recorded, wild, raw and with fuzz guitar all over. Still even for most Turkish collector a kept secret. BUNALIM released on 6 singles which are incredible rare. They never did a whole album. Produced by Cem Karaca. They say about the band: "God, they were crazy!  Running all nude down the Istiklal Street, psychedelic light shows, crazy paintings all over the stage wall and screaming of "LSD!  LSD!" in their live shows".

i know the 45rpm s of them but i really dont know their CD s ... and it s not important because i have all songs from them... and i never loose them Big smile  it s good, if they have got a CD set for the people that want to know turkish pschedelic.. it s good...

this writing was written by my dear progressive pschedelic lover friend gerald (look; http://progressive.homestead.com/GRUP_BUNALIM.html )

"bunalım" means "depression" in turkish.. this band is really important for turkish rock music because this band was really a factory of progressive and pschedelic musicians... this band was first station of them all... ahmet güvenç (barış manço- kurtalan ekspresi) hüseyin sultanoğlu(cem karaca-dervişan) nihat örerel and aydın çakuş ( erkin koray-yeraltı dörtlüsü)  these bands are all heroes of turkish rock music... so they were from Bunalımlar ... becuase of that bunalımlar is really important for all turkish progressive pschedelic rock lover Wink

Actually I thought they formed Bunalim after Yeralti Dörtlüsü... or maybe for some time both bands co-existed?

I agree about Ahmet Güvenç, he's probably the greatest name on bass (since I don't know any other; and Taner Öngür is certainly not up to his league Tongue), but there's no such thing as "Kurtalan Ekspresi" since mid '80's Big smile... Baris Manco switched to one-man band (plus an occasional guitar & some background vocals every now and then) right after Degmesin Yagli Boya, and Kurtalan played only in concerts... After Baris's death, we lost them too... I don't know about their live performances, though... I only have a recent album made by Ekspres, and it's totally sh*t....
