Just to say you can hear Squire and Hackett together on record already...mind you its on Chris Squires "Swiss Choir" Xmas album so it may not be to everyones taste. And Hacketts' not very noticeable! However does indicate - hopefully - that this project might happen. |

I'm looking very much forward to the next Hackett album, and if Hackett and Squire cook something together, I'm sure that will be very worth buying too!

Chris Squires best days were with Bill Bruford. Why can't he work together again with Bill to show what a rhythm section should sound like. I also thought he was on tour with the Anderson-less Yes ???

Well, now that Bruford had retired, I guess he won't work with Squire. Moreover, ask yourself why Bruford left Yes to join King Crimson.

I have always thought that this was the worst career move in history; to leave Yes a the hight of their power, right after Close To The Edge to join King Crimson who was rapidly disintegrating at the time after the awful Islands album
I thought that Bill left Yes because he didn't want to "play in a band that sounds like The Beach Boys".

I still like Islands. But look at what Crimson did after Bruford joined: Larks, Starless, Red. If anything, Yes kept it together musically (I know that's controversial) with White and Crimson took a turn for the better. Edited by Slartibartfast - February 03 2009 at 05:39 |

Totally agree! While Tales and Relayer, and even Drama are awesome records, Crimson progressed greatly. |

Personally, I'm not very fond of these albums either. I agree that they took a turn for the better when Bruford joined them, but how could they not after Islands
IMO Crimson made only one great album and that was In The Court Of The Crimson King. Red is their second best one, but only the excellent song Starless comes close to the stuff from the debut. The other Crimson albums with Bruford I rate quite low! Lark's Toungues In Aspic I find extremely overrated
Yes, on the other hand, continued to make great albums throughout the whole 70's. I even praise Tormato Alan White is a great drummer too, even if not as distinctive as Bruford.
But these are only my opinions. Remember the original topic was Steve Hackett and Chris Squire.

Tormato gets no respect so I guess that whole tomato on the album cover art really fits.
Of course before some of you out there might consider Hackett/Squire an odd or interesting pairing consider this: Peter Banks, electric and acoustic guitar, ARP, mini moog, Fender piano; Jan Akkerman, electric and acoustic guitar; with Ray Bennett, bass guitar; Phil Collins, drums; Steve Hackett, electric guitar; Mike Hough, drums; John Wetton, bass
Tracklist:
I do hope I'm not raising expectations unrealistically. Edited by Slartibartfast - February 03 2009 at 05:39 |

Slarti, is this album worth seeking out? I have had it on my wishlist for years without actively searching for it.

I can only tell you that I really like it. I got a used copy of the LP many years ago. There was an unremastered CD version that I missed out on. I copied the LP to a CD at home. If a remaster CD should surface, I'd get it for my collection. Not for everyone I suppose, but seek out other opinions.

Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...
