That's one of my favourite songs
The rain auditions at my window it's symphony echoes in my womb

Stand up and fight, for you know we are right. We must strike at the lies, that have spread like disease through our minds.
Steep, far too steep, grew the pathway ahead Descent was the only escape A wolf never flees in the face of his foe Fang knew the price he would pay
Maybe it was infatuation or the thrill of the chase Maybe you were always beyond my reach and my heart was playing safe But was that love in your eye I saw or the reflection of mine? I'll never really know for sure, you never really gave me time
But now I'm the snake in the grass, the ghost of film reels past I'm the producer of your nightmare and the performance has just begun It's just begun
There's a photo on the mantelpiece, when you bought your first guitar And your girlfriend came to see you when you were the rising star You knew your luck was holding when you filled the local hall The first time and the last time that you thought you had control
I could be a million miles away I'm a wandering stranger just trying to find some answers And although you're there you're a million miles away
I think you all know the most of these. The last one is from Pendragon's A million Miles away, though I lost the EP I'll always remember that line

I love those lines... Strange, but true. Piece of cake to find out where they came from, I guess...

I guess 99% of you will recognize them!

Yes I do. As for the 2nd: I love a lot of the lyrics on side two of Misplaced Childhood.
Also: "It was morning, and I found myself mourning etc..." The pun is a bit cliche, but on the album it works. "...There is no childhood's end..." Fantastic.

And this one will be much more difficult: it's not English and it's not prog, but I get shivers every time I listen to this song:
Ich bin gestorben dem Weltgetümmel und rüh' in einem stillen Gebiet Ich leb' allein in meinem Himmel, in meinem Lieben, in meinem Lied
Actually, I hope nobody else has put this beautiful poem into music...

Arrgh, how could I forget the master wordsmith Neil Peart?!
"If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice" (so true)
My signature, from "Territories"
"And the boy pulls down his baseball cap and covers up his eyes"
"Any escape might help to smoothe the unattractive truth
That the suburbs have no charms to soothe the restless dreams of youth"
"Gaze into his prism, knowing they are near
Leads them to the dungeons, spectres numb with fear
They bow defeated"
"Everyone would gather on the 24th of May..." (hehe my B-day)

"And I'm hovering like a fly...waiting for the windshield on the freeway"
"It's so erotic when your makeup runs"
"Into the orchard I walk peering way past the gate"
"You've gotta sleep on your toes, and when you're on the street,
You've got to be able to pick out the easy meat
With your eyes closed"
"Did (did did did) you ever wonder why we had to run for shelter with the promise of a brave new world unfurled beneath the clear blue sky" (wow, what a mouthful!)
"Wave upon wave of demented avengers march cheerfully out of obscurity into the dream" (yep, I love Roger's lyrics)
...just to name a few faves

"You radiate cold shards of broken glass...."
"And in the end you'll pack up/Fly down south/Hide your head in the sand/Just another sad old man/All alone and dying of cancer...ohhohhhhhhhhh"
"Who was only a stranger at home/Who was ground down in the end/Who was found dead on the phone....dragged down by the stone...stone...stone....stone...stone...stone...stone...sto ne..."
"And it's too late to lose the weight you used to need to throw around"
Man, that was bleak....need something lighter...how about:
"I've got three beers and a fist full of downs/Now I'm gonna get ripped so phuk you clowns"

Yeah man. Those also got me from the first time I heard them. Also:
Son watches father scan obituary cards In search of absent school friends While his generation digests high fibre ignorance Cowering behind curtains and the taped up painted windows
Very powerful imagery ...

Fish could be a real lyrical master at times, especially when it came to the romantic side of things. I think most of the lyrics to Kayleigh are inspired in their honesty and simplicity:
'Do you remember chalk hearts melting on a playground wall Do you remember Dawn escapes from moonwashed college halls'

Rising Runner Missed By Endless Sender
Nah, just kiddin'
Spiralling to the ground below
Like Autumn leaves left in the wake to fade away
Waking up to your sound again
And lapse into the ways of misery
