Why Do You Hate Genesis?

Actually, I can take em or leave em. I like Trespass and SEBtP the best but I don't like Foxtrot, TotT or W and W much at all.

If this thread was against Yes, I would have gotten all upset  

Genesis had a good instrumental department, and they should have put it to more use, rather than have Gabriel disrupt it with inane lyrics. At some points they are great(The 1. part of 'Ikhnaton and itsacon and their band of merry men' from 'Supper's Ready', the instrumental passage in 'Firth Of Fifth') at some other points they cook vomit('More Fool Me', approximately 85% of "The Lamb).

Indeed they are overrated, as are many other prog bands who sacrifice instrumental power to have redundant vocals.

Fast forward button usage is inevitable, but at least they did have their peaks, making them a worthwhile listen.

on the other side of that sword their are a million prog bands with no lyrics and redundant music (usually fusion bands).  sometims you fidn yourself begging for lyrics to break monotony of muisc.

I agree. The drummer is Lion King's boy, the vocals are BAD, the guitar is the only good part, the bass is normal, and the keyboards are cheesy. Their songs are AWFUL, in the most.

I dont hate em i yust think they are very very very overated they are not as good as some people whuld make you belive, I have bought Foxtrot and selling england..., and i think they are both preety good but hardly any master pieaces or the best prog albums ever never! Their is way to many flaws in bothe of them, to be caled great. And even everyones favorite Suppers ready have many bad parts me thinks. none of therir songs makes me feel the same way that my ather favorite prog bands do, i guees they are not my cup of tea, So i say give me ELP any day yust dont make me lisen too genesis ever again please

It's not that some people would "lead you to believe" that Genesis are good . . .

It's that music is relative. Whether a person thinks Genesis is great or not depends on the person themselves . . .

Before somebody tells you why does he/she hates Genesis, better tell us why you hate Genesis, you only say Trespass , SEBTP and Foxtrot suck, and that hardly is a valid reason, If you don't give a reason, then don't ask others, or are you looking for an argument to justify your hate for them?

You only say they are pretentious (after a couple of adjectives wrote without any coherence), well  Gentle Giant is at least as pretentious as Genesis (as 99% of Prog' bands) and even when they are not my cup of tea, I don't believe they suck.

Genesis is before Gentle Giant in the stores only because of alphabetical order, and that hardly is a reason to hate them, and if this is your main argument, I sincerely encourage you to visit a shrink because you have a bad case of neurosis.

There's something I cant understand, if "Genesis has put you through MORE torture than we can imagine" it means you have listen them a lot, then if you hate Genesis Why in hell do you listen them? If something tortures any normal person, he will avoid it, seems you enjoy being tortured.

If you listen them once or twice, they may be inflicting you torture (even when I'm sure they never tried to do that or even cared), but if as it seems, you have listened them a lot, you're the one self inflicting you torture, don't blame Genesis for your masochist tendencies.
