Lots of snow. Dogs love it. I guess they like it when the world looks a bit different.

It's freaking hot here today, -1C only... What a relieve, actually. I don't mind snow and frost, but people are so little used to here that driving is a nightmare. Everybody drives as if they are on oil while the roads have been thorougly cleaned.

Well on the good side here in the Seattle area temps are up around 50 F. On the down side there is no let up in the rain, so of course we're going through another 100-year flood (we have these every year now), as in if you live near a river, which many do, you're knee deep in it. Our little creek out back is looking impressive. I can't wait for the surely looming plague of locusts next week.

Thanks, Judgment Day -- that was interesting, about the Aetas. I, of course, live on "stolen land" myself. An alternate version of our national anthem begins: " O Canada, our home on (instead of the usual "and") native land...."
![]() ![]() Now, you might well be gone before the land mass you stand upon goes slamming into another, but I think it would be only prudent of you to always brace yourself against something sturdy, and to eschew standing too close to the edges, just in case...
That's why you'll generally find me here, safely ensconced in the middle of the continent -- no sneaky, jagged new mountain range is going to spring up under me while I doze, I can tell you that! Granted, the capricious continents generally creep around the globe slowly and stealthily, but they might well be trying to lull us into incautious complacency and a false sense of security, the better to catch us unawares, and send us all flying "arse over kettle" when they suddenly decide to spring forward into the rocky arms of their massy partners in the tectonic dance! One can't be too careful in these matters -- you have been duly warned! ![]() Edited by Peter - January 09 2009 at 19:14 |

-27 C here now, and sunny. Lovely day -- if a mite chilly.
Thanks for all of the interesting updates on your local weather, folks! Please keep them coming, especially if anything unseasonal or unusual (such as the sudden appearance of exotic flora and fauna hitherto confined to an overseas land) occurs in your area.

Wow, to me that's brutally cold. I guess in your estimation I am sitting here at a tropical -1. We are supposed to get a whopping 1-3 inches of snow tonight or tomorrow though. ![]() |

Llandeilo, about an hour's drive into Wales from here, recorded -16 on Monday night...
![]() I must say, the Cotswolds looked rather majestic, with deep blue, cloudless sky and the white fields glistening in the sun...
![]() that said, this has to be the most prolonged cold snap we've had for getting on for a decade...and yes, its killed a lot of the ground bugs off, but on the other hand, it isn't doing many of the Octagenarians a lot of good either...

![]() Ah - Robert Smith, patron of Lipstick For The Blind ![]() [edit] Looks like same weather tonight as last night - with no sign during today of a thaw, the hoar frost should be fairly impressive tomorrow; I predict a photographic expedition tomorrow ![]() At the very least, I may venture into the garden... ![]() Edited by Jim Garten - January 09 2009 at 11:21 |

Same here, at least according to the Weather Channel. Actually, it did snow yesterday morning - when I got out of the grocery store, lovely white flakes were falling (though of course they didn't last a second). Today it's quite chilly outside, and temps will probably not rise much above 0°C for the next week or so. |
