Well, that's another six beer shoveled, and another six inches of snow drunk!
 It just keeps a-comin' down!
So, how's the weather over/across/up/down/underneath/adjacent to/atop your way? Got snow?Monsoons? Droughts? A rain of poisonous toads and/or blood?
Snowmageddon?
Anyone need some snow?

We've gone from 60° weather yesterday, to 20-30° weather today. I even did my 4 miles in shorts and a t-shirt yesterday. No chance of that happening today.

Weather is schizophernic around here too. Temperature highs have been ranging from about 20F to the high 50s. We had a record high of 68 a week ago though.

We're gonna get 3 to 7 inches overnight. I'm in high school, and they've already announced a two hour delay, and I hope we don't have a snow day. Delays are good though. One of the things I'm going to miss once I graduate.
Finals were supposed to be the last 2 days of school, but they got cancelled due to snow. They were moved to Tuesday of this week, so we have tomorrow to study, and the next day to take tests. If we don't have a snow day the next two days this week.

Yeah baby! The beautiful (frozen) Sioux Falls of South Dakota! There's supposed to be a river flowing over those rocks. I've already broken three shear pins off my snow blower this winter!

Looks lovely!
How much total accumulation on the ground would you estimate, Clementine?
About 2.5 - 3 feet here, and -20 C this morning. We lost about 6 inches to a foot in a day of unseasonable warm and rain a week or so back, too. Still, we have tons of the stuff -- those exposed rocks in your pic would be buried, here.
I'm well north of you, near Timmins, Ontario, BTW. 'Tis a relatively balmy -13 C here now, I see.
And snow blowers are for wee girly men -- I use one of those large, acoustic, green, free-to-operate, silent, beer-driven scoops!

Well... for the first time in a few years, we've been able to skate on real (as opposed to artificial) ice past Christmas holidays. And this morning (first working day) to our horror, we were surprised by about 8cm of snow when we opened the curtain.
Peter read on before responding! I am painfully aware that 8 cm is nothing compared to what people in North America and Scandinavia are used to, but over here it means that our already overly used motorways lock up completely. As an example, the main north-south route over here (a.k.a. the A2), which is about 200km long held over 100km of traffic jam - on one direction only... This guy's working from home today - not because of the snow, but because of how it affects traffic over here.

Well, we have a bit of snow here in West - Belgium (I suppose in the hills / mountains in the east they have a lot more), but I'm glad with it. My daughter made a mini - snow man and threw some modest snowballs.
And it's freezing for quite some time. Wonderful to have a classic winter.

So if (given the general definition involving huge disruption & drifting) we don't have real snow, does that mean what the UK is experiencing at the moment is snow-related?

Snow-related at best, Jim. And if there aren't any crystals or iglo's in it it doesn't even deserve to be called that.

No snow here - we had a light dusting in early December, but no more since then (though I saw some flakes falling last Friday, when walking to the grocery store). On the other hand, I've heard it has been snowing heavily in many parts of Italy, though I'm quite sure not in Rome (last time was in 1986). I do agree with the crazy temp swings here in the east US... The Xmas week started with icy cold blasts on Monday, and ended with almost spring-like warmth on Sunday!

No, none recently. I think there was just one so far this winter.
We're equipped to deal with it up here (plenty of snow plows, snow blowers, sanders, salters, sidewalk plows, etc.), and our drivers are used to these conditions, and generally modify their driving accordingly. Snow tires (which make a huge difference), plus block heaters are standard (you plug in your car to warm the engine & oil, for easier starting), and 4-wheel drive vehicles are also very common here.
Lots of snow in the winter is just a fact of life here. It's a veritable snowmobiler's paradise. We also get pretty extreme cold, so the snow on side streets tends to stay frozen and hard packed, and not slushy and slippery.
Only - 14 C now (not very cold, by our standards), and we got about another inch of the white stuff overnight. Seems it will be clear today. i just got in from clearing the end of the driveway of the heavy stuff the 5:00 AM snowplow left. Whew!
Having my morning coffee now -- walk to work soon! (First day back after Xmas holidays -- waaah!)
Thanks for all of the interesting responses, keep 'em coming, and TTYL!

A light sprinkling of snow here in Manchester today.
This is the coldest winter I think I've ever known. It seems to have been freezing for ages. I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of mornings I've NOT needed to scrape/de-ice the car since the start of November. It's really starting to tick me off. I need a nice warm winter holiday, but fat chance of that.

We are in dire drought conditions in central California. We have had minor rain and snow, but our aquifers are severely depleted we need about 12 inches of rain and heavy mountain snow in the next couple months just to catch up. Mostly we just have the ing inversion fog here 30f - 42f. (-1c - 5c) It sucks.

I suppose you're going to say next that when this snow thaws, it's no longer snow! Guidelines clearly state that if it used to be pristine snow, it continues to be listed as such even if it now looks like a grey puddle you'd avoid at all costs".

Southern California had some rain (snow in the mountains great for skiing!) just before and on Christmas. Unusual to have a wet Christmas. By New Years back to 70 degree sunshine weather for the rose Parade and game. Then a little cold front last weekend but should be back to 70's by Wed. Mostly 65-72 depending on where you live for the next 10 days. Not too bad eh?

I see. Yes, that's a warm place -- do you get heavy rains there, this time of year?
(And just how "brown" are the men there, anyway? More of a very light beige, really, aren't they?)
In any case, your assertion that it will "never" snow there would seem to indicate that you don't believe in continental drift, due to the inexorable movement of the earth's tectonic plates. The lizards and palm trees in Antarctica once smugly believed the same thing....

I remember one time, when I lived in Finland, when the thermometer outside showed -31, and the one on the freezer door -29 (all °C, of course) . Having experienced temps of -30°C and lower, I wouldn't say it's my idea of fun - but always much better than having temps of almost +40°C with very high humidity .

There's an (unheated) storage room in my basement where we routinely put leftovers, beer & such during winter, when the fridge is too full -- works a charm!
Perhaps after I walk home today, I'll skip the sauna and just lie down in the deep freeze (freezer) to warm up!

Anyway, I have to go to work -- the room I'm in doesn't get much heat (outside wall, north facing), and my typing fingers are now literally quite cold!

apparently in Edmonton (Canada) temperatures have reached -50 C this year, but over in BC we've got a cozy -9 most days, but it's warming up now.

I see. Yes, that's a warm place -- do you get heavy rains there, this time of year? No, not yet. We usually get heavy pourings from June-August.
(And just how "brown" are the men there, anyway? More of a very light beige, really, aren't they?) Well, yes. But the Aetas (AKA Atis) who are believed to be the first group to inhabit the Philippine archipelago do have brown skin and hair.

In any case, your assertion that it will "never" snow there would seem to indicate that you don't believe in continental drift, due to the inexorable movement of the earth's tectonic plates. Well on the good side of things, here in Seattle the snow has stopped, at least in the lowlands, only to be replaced by "sideways" rain. I'll take the rain any time.

Hmm good for you guys. I was visiting Seattle in the Spring while we had a break for school. It was snowing there, which was quite a surprise for my friends who lived there. Luckily, I had a flight out of there the next morning, so I didn't have to endure horrible traffic.

-20 today. Brrrr. But I remember it being -51 in Lapland a few years ago.
I love how in Canada it gets really cold in the winter, but summers are often hot. Especially in the beautiful Okanagan. Weird seeing pictures of Vancouver with snow though.

I hate driving through the Okanagan in the summer when it's +40 and you take a pit stop somewhere to get some fresh air only to realize that it's +50 outside the damned car . Then you drive by nothing but apple orchards for the next 100 miles.
Oh the deserts of BC...
The snow in Vancouver is finally gone though - on the roads, anyways.

Well it`s a snowin`and blowin`here in Montréal. About 20cm expected over the next two days.I wonder if the city can get it`s act together on the snow removal before the usual freezing rain arrives right after these storms turning the streets and sidewalks into skating rinks.

| That`s nothing but I guess that`s pretty frosty for the Netherlands. When I was on a survival course with the military somewhere in northern Québec we were in minus 60 not counting the wind chill. Your eyes would freeze shut and you couldn`t breath through your nose because your snot would freeze. They had to have a chopper on standby to airlift out anyone out who succumbed to the cold.

It's freaking hot here today, -1C only... What a relieve, actually. I don't mind snow and frost, but people are so little used to here that driving is a nightmare. Everybody drives as if they are on oil while the roads have been thorougly cleaned.

Well on the good side here in the Seattle area temps are up around 50 F. On the down side there is no let up in the rain, so of course we're going through another 100-year flood (we have these every year now), as in if you live near a river, which many do, you're knee deep in it. Our little creek out back is looking impressive. I can't wait for the surely looming plague of locusts next week.

Thanks, Judgment Day -- that was interesting, about the Aetas. I, of course, live on "stolen land" myself. An alternate version of our national anthem begins: " O Canada, our home on (instead of the usual "and") native land...."
Now, you might well be gone before the land mass you stand upon goes slamming into another, but I think it would be only prudent of you to always brace yourself against something sturdy, and to eschew standing too close to the edges, just in case...
That's why you'll generally find me here, safely ensconced in the middle of the continent -- no sneaky, jagged new mountain range is going to spring up under me while I doze, I can tell you that! Granted, the capricious continents generally creep around the globe slowly and stealthily, but they might well be trying to lull us into incautious complacency and a false sense of security, the better to catch us unawares, and send us all flying "arse over kettle" when they suddenly decide to spring forward into the rocky arms of their massy partners in the tectonic dance! One can't be too careful in these matters -- you have been duly warned!

Llandeilo, about an hour's drive into Wales from here, recorded -16 on Monday night... . We managed to get away with only -10, topping the previous week's -9. On Tuesday morning, I made my way to north London, everywhere in between being covered with a light blanket of the white stuff...
I must say, the Cotswolds looked rather majestic, with deep blue, cloudless sky and the white fields glistening in the sun...
that said, this has to be the most prolonged cold snap we've had for getting on for a decade...and yes, its killed a lot of the ground bugs off, but on the other hand, it isn't doing many of the Octagenarians a lot of good either...

Same here, at least according to the Weather Channel. Actually, it did snow yesterday morning - when I got out of the grocery store, lovely white flakes were falling (though of course they didn't last a second). Today it's quite chilly outside, and temps will probably not rise much above 0°C for the next week or so.
