I am however glad when friends of mine manage to pull a beautiful "love story" - and wish them to never change that (like my best friend, who will deeply shock me if ever breaking up with the girl he's with right now, that's how strong their bond looks like - like you, JayDee, having happily build a family Big smile - like Raff & Micky, finally united for life since yesterday and having went through tough times to achieve that...and such)

Thanks man.

I also agree with your second paragraph.

It's the best feeling in the world when you share it with someone.
It's the most lonely thing in the world when you give it to someone without it being returned.
It's pretty good for your ego when several people love you.
However, the darkest thing is that it's the most painful thing in the world when it is taken away from you. In all situations.

By the responses in this thread, one would conclude that love is a cliche.

Yep. One as in you & you alone. The way you've initially put it, love sounds like chemistry.

Perhaps Fromm's definition may not be the stuff of greeting cards or Harlequin novels, but it certainly does coincide with the view of Western philosophy and the great world religions.

Greeting cards or Harlequin Novels are expressions of or about love. Expressions of love can turn into cliques. Love (with the big L, preferably) can hardly be called a clique.

No.  I suggest that they're simply sentimentalizations of love.

I think that you mean "cliche" rather than "clique."  In any case, my point was that the characterizations of love delineated in this thread are indeed cliches.

Kim Wilde was right. Love is..what you want it to be.

To quote John Varley: Wouldn't it be sweet to be 17 again, and to have a broken heart for the first time again?

For me, love is the sheer joy and a reason for a living--I'm in love again, with a gorgeous lady, it's a fresh new start for me and it's great!

Love is the thema of most of the TOP 40 hit singles. Love sells perfume, chocolate, sex toys - not together. Love is just a tool. Love is love is love is love... Love is lava. Love is a protection. Love is boring. Luv, luv, luv, luv, luuuuuuv.

U2 - "Love is Blindness"

Love is blindness
I don't want to see
Won't you wrap the night
Around me
Oh my heart
Love is blindness

In a parked car
In a crowded street
You see your love
Made complete
Thread is ripping
The knot is slipping
Love is blindness

Love is clockworks
And cold steel
Fingers too numb to feel
Squeeze the handle
Blow out the candle
Love is blindness

Love is blindness
I don't want to see
Won't you wrap the night
Around me
Oh my love
Blindness

A little death
Without mourning
No call
And no warning
Baby...a dangerous idea
That almost makes sense

Love is drowning
In a deep well
All the secrets
And no one to tell
Take the money
Honey
Blindness

Love is blindness
I don't want to see
Won't you wrap the night
Around me
Oh my love
Blindness

Achtung Baby is U2's best work and one of the greatest albums ever.

it may not be all you need, but it's good have and to share
and of course most of us are here due to a little act of loving

I don't know. I'm a simple person, and I think all I really need is love to live a happy life.

I have been alone for 2 years now,it's appalling:loneliness is a poison since I'm sure I'm able to bring something POSITIVE to anybody.

Love is all you need.

To make it short, love can be everything and has so many faces, totally depends on the position. It can be painful, gappy, sad, true, false, enlightening, pleasant, beautiful, ugly, cruel..

My personal experience are maybe that diverse, too. But as I'm still young, there will be even more to experience.. /delete every cheesy statement in your mind, please..
