Topic: Other than Prog.... Posted: September 28 2004 at 21:59 |
...what do you guys listen to?
Personally I also listen to death/gore/black/whatever metal, but I also listen to jazz and classical (strange combo)... Only stuff I really can't stand is rap and mainstream stuff, although sum41/blink186/trash23 like bands make me want to beat my self to death with my own feet.

Cheers.

Interesting question. Other than prog, I listen to a lot of older pop artists(James Taylor, Carole King, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, The Who, The Beatles, later Crack The Sky, John Palumbo, etc) and newer pop artists(Sarah McLachlan, Tori Amos, Darren Hayes, Savage Garden, Blessid Union Of Souls.) I also enjoy some heavy metal(Sabbath, Tool, A Perfect Circle, Ozzy, Iron Maiden, etc), Alternative bands(REM, U2, Matchbox Twenty, Depeche Mode, etc) and some older grunge(The Smashing Pumpkins, Silverchair, etc.) I pretty much like everything that's musical(this excludes rap, of course, because we all know that rap isn't musical. )

Hmmm, I wonder if the management could set the avatar selector to remove those clips already in use?
Of course, Peter, you could always change yours to a gnarled old bucktoothed Canadian badger... It may be more fitting, wot?
Give up the ol' "Candle in the Dark" premise. Bucky!

I don't like that one so much. (Nor do I know how to get an avatar from elsewhere!) I'm rather attached to my old one (one of the first in use here!); I find that the flame "jumps out" at me when I'm scanning for my old posts (to find funny stufff we wrote in the glory days -- call me sentimental); there's something to be said for consistency; and shouldn't the (honourable) onus be on the new user to make the change, in any case?
Not the end of the world, I know, but if I switch (and ProgRocker keeps the candle) I'll always be confused as to my true identity.... |

That is an AGE issue, I'm sure.
I think many members are confused about your identity. Just yesterday, another member PM'ed me and asked, "Who the f**k does he think he is?"

But also to classical music.
Sometimes to old Dutch music from a singer cold Boudewijn de Groot
But mostly at the moment Prog/Sympho because I rediscovered it.

I'm probably the most limited of everyone here since I only listen to musical styles that have common factors. My three favourite forms of music are prog, electronic and classical because there are strong links and similarities between them,ie.sophistication, refinement, intelligence, innovation,su perior musicianship and broad artistic scope and vision. All those things must be there for me to enjoy music and so I have no time for anything simple and three chord,verse/chorus/verse/chorus based. In fact it gives me a fullblown panic attack, and I'm being serious about this,to listen to anything 3 minute,3 chord verse/chorus based. If I'm forced to listen to anything like that my breathing gets restricted,I start sweating heavily,my knees turn to jelly and my stomach turns upside down.Sort of like a claustrophobic stuck in a lift. And,once again,I'm not joking now,it's really true. So one of my favourite albums of all time is "Amarok" by Mike Oldfield but if someone puts on "Moonlight Shadow" I'll be out the door quicker than a...a....erm...something that's really quick!

Well I can listen to POP, if itīs done with brains and humor, but how often is it done that way ?!!!!!!! ![](smileys/smiley5.gif)
I used to be a Oldfield fan ( Even saw him live once ) but when he
began his Religious period, then I lost interest. ( I canīt imagine why
).
