the artist has to contact M@X, but the collabs can go to the band and ask if they're interested.

Yeah, just wondering.  Not that I'd interested in that sort of exposure, though...Wink

It's good exposure if you don't ask for bad reviews of your albums to be taken down.

not that I'm holding a grudge or anything Angry

That's tacky and dishonest.  I welcome criticism.  I cower in the corner while I receive it, but I welcome it!  Big smile

I just wonder how many people will hold back just because I'm a regular here.

I already know my limitations as a musician (and especially as a vocalist).

I'm versatile as a musician (I play everything but drums on my recordings), but I'm not as technically proficient as many others, nor do I care to be for the sake of my music.  The compositions are what I focus on, and there aren't too many "speedy" parts.  I like simple, anyway.

I would say the sound of my singing voice is somewhere in the realm between Neal Morse and Andy Latimer on a good day.  For better or for worse, that's the voice I have.  I can carry a tune at least (I think!).

Here's something I completely don't get-

Every neo prog (or modern symphonic prog) band gets this in some form or another:

"You can hear heavy traces of Yes, Genesis, and ELP..."

I'm sorry- many of these bands sound completely different, and I don't usually hear these influences (even though they may exist).

When I think Genesis, for instance, my mind mostly conjures up layered 12-string guitar and theatrical lyrics.

When I think ELP, I think heavy bombastic keyboards.

You see what I'm saying?

True. For the most part I agree with this.

you'll notice in my IQ review I went for the jugular like many reviewers who don't like Neo. The thing is that THIS time, I could REALLY hear Supper's Ready while I was listening to Harvest Of Souls, down to te same bloody backing keyboards in the song as Banks used on Foxtrot. Also, when you've heard hundreds and hundreds of albums you start looking for something that doesn't sound like every ohter bloody thing in the market.

That said, I like neo. Misplaced Childhood is once of my all-time favorite records.

I have heard that about "Harvest of Souls."

None of my music is in 9/8, if that's any consolation.

that's not the problem, it's putting it in the same place as the genesis song for the same effect.

I'll be honest- several times I've tried to "emulate" the sound or style of a given band, and you know what?  I've found that I can't do it.  I just can't.

I'm happy to say that (again, for better or for worse), I have my own sound, and I feel like my compositions are at least unique.

One aspect of my sound is that I don't "polish" the recording to a sqeuaky sheen, if that makes any sense.  In other words, I don't always edit out little hisses or clicks.  Sometimes I feel like those are just a part of the music as anything else.  I guess I prefer my sound a little more "organic."

see, that's what I don't get. If it's easier to develop your own unique sound then why don't more bands do that?

What I'm recording right now sounds remarkably like Camel.  Smile

Like a missing track right off of Moonmadness.
