Just give me a few minutes.  I'm cooking and dealing with my boy while my wife is having a shower.

And Judge Judy's on.

I'm sure he'll like those.

I probably won't end up getting any more today because I've been busy nearly all day and my mind doesn't feel like reviewing.

Leftoverture is not my favorite album by Kansas.  None of them are.

That's one reason they're my favorite band.  Every album has a few "less-than-stellar" songs (largely due to the contributions and motivations of their lead singer, but oh well).

But every album (even ones with low ratings, including Drastic Measures) has at least three or four excellent songs and at least one or two progressive rock masterpieces (for the most part).  You're never let down (okay, so Power kind of sucked, but even then, there's two or three great songs).

"Questions of My Childhood" gets the most criticism from me on Leftoverture, but it's by no means a bad song.  If I had anything to say about the album, it's that Leftoverture is the band's most consistent album (maybe Point of Know Return is, I'm not sure).  Magnum Opus, by the way, is my least favorite Kansas epic.

Interesting point. I absolutely love Kansas's first five albums and wouldn't change them because I think it's the combination of elements that makes them really unique. I'm listening to their debut now and I wouldn't want to get rid of tracks like "Bringing it Back" or "Lonely Wind", neither do I necessarily prefer "Apercu". They're all wonderful in different ways, and I think the prog/hard rock and violin battles are what make them unique. After Point of Know Return, their material gets a bit iffy from me. I only have the two after that and I gave up after those two. Those two are alright.

Leftoverture is amazing and definitely my favorite, but I love them all too. Leftoverture doesn't have a weak nanosecond for me; I love every moment of it.

While I could never do without the first six (six for me) Kansas albums, when Somewhere to Elsewhere came out around the turn of the century, and I got to see them play this stuff for the first time live, I was blown away by what I heard.  Icarus II, Myriad, and The Vision are modern  masterworks of progressive rock, and the rest of the songs are nothing less than amazing.

Again, I lied.  I meant the first seven albums (I couldn't do without).

I really should hear it again. Maybe I'll do that very soon now. It's been a few months at the least since I've even heard it. I'm on the last song of debut; I'll decide whether to hear that next or not (if not next, then quite soon).

I also need to hear Monolith again too.
