It`s hard to nail down my fav. CD, they are all great, I rarley listen to anything else. Wishbone Ash

" Time Was....Dbl. live set is anohter great set. Just ordered the Argus remake " Then Again" can`t wait to listen to that one.

Martin Turner's Wishbone Ash, the band formed a couple of years back by the former bassplayer and lead vocalist, have also re-recorded Argus. A studio version in their case, with John Wetton and Geoff Downes guesting on Throw Down The Sword (Asia share management with MTWA, and of course JW was briefly in Wishbone, replacing Martin who had just left, just prior to joining Asia).

Looking forward to hearing it, as they were stunning live in Glasgow earlier this year.

Argus Then Again Live (recorded for US station XM radio in front of a small audience during the summer) is tremendous. We'll be seeing WA (the current lineup, led by sole survivor Andy Powell) soon, for the fifth time since 2006. A great band.

Wishbone Four was my first album by them, and I wasn't sure I liked it. But then it grew on me over time. Later I got Argus and New England, both of which I like a lot. Had a chance to see them play in a small club, too, and that blew me away even more. They're fantastic (and tight) as a live band.

They were progressively more boring than their first album was already boring from the start. A more astute group then were Black Widow.

Not sure if "astute" is a criteria for Wishbone Ash's music - it sounds good to me from whichever intelligence it's using. I don't think the music seeks to gain any kind of advantage necessarily - but it certainly did. You can easily hear the huge number of bands they influenced (as well as their obvious influences).

I haven't listened to Black Widow much, but what I've heard doesn't seem to have the "big picture" viewpoint that Wishbone Ash clearly did - Black Widow's musicial designs and compositional techniques seem less "astute" if anything (if that's really the word you meant), IIRC.

I'll revisit their material at my earliest convenience, as it's true that you don't always pick everything up in a few listens - I always enjoy listening to music from that time.

I disagree that WA were progressively more boring - the first album is OK - obviously down tempo and free from unnecessary intricacies, but not what I'd call boring. Pilrimage is superb - a real blast off by comparison, and Argus is the culmination of that progression, as far as I cal tell. Sounds to me like they certainly got more interesting as they progressed - why would you think they got more boring (unless you simply didn't like it!)?

I was listening to Pilgrimage last night - it just seems to get better with every listen. I like Argus, but Pilgrimage just rocks. Nothing boring about it at all - depends on your attention span, I suppose...

I was reading comments on Wishbone Ash. One person even called them boring. Boring?

With the internet you can find so much. I was a big fan up to WA 4, kinda drifted away with all the great groups at the time. I feel that Argus was the perfect album, start to finish. Andy and his Buds have done a great job keeping WA going strong. The remake of the Argus album on XM was great.

I saw them play at a small club in Ohio in 2007. They captivated the crowd start to finish. There are alot of Ash cd`s out there now. I like the live in Hamburg CD personally.

I can`t take a drive without poping a WA cd in the disc drive. I still have many favs. but Wishbone Ash is simply the best

Argus is my favorite. The King Will Come is the highlight of the album for me. And how could anyone not appreciate the lyrics of that song? I like Pilgrimage, Live Dates, and New England. That talk box guitar(Frampton style or Jeff Beck) always got to me, but the songwriting on NE is something that I can't pass up....In All Of My Dreams, come to think of it may be like early Camel...Moonmadness period. I never had the chance to hear Live Dates Vol.II. I bet that's a decent record to check out right?

I went for There's The Rub.

Argus is of course a classic and the first album is also indispensible in my books, but TTR has a great live sound with really up-front bass.

BTW - the fourth album is actually called Wishbone Four (not 'Four') and I don't think Illuminations should be included because it is the first of Andy Powell's many bogus albums featuring himself and unknown salaried sidemen, rather than the 'proper' band itself (with a quorum of original members). That stuff is like what Roger Waters said of Floyd without himself ... a passable forgery. It is not really true of Floyd - but definitely is of Wishbone Ash.

The vocals aren't up to scratch with Pilgrimage and Argus but I'm loving the music on it.
