The singer is the best "Peter Gabriel" clone you'll find in any Progressive Rock genre. Let me declare that we all as Prog lovers should appreciate good clones, think of it just as a continuum to this beautiful world.

Give "Citizen Cain" a chance and open their new "Musical Box", but start with "Somewhere but Yesterday".

The only one remotely acceptable is his review about AREKNAMÉS, but thetwo above are no reviews at all IMHO.

5%20stars Beautiful, just beautiful. The Knife is total hard rock, with lead guitar to die for. In fact, parts of it sound- dare I say it-almost Black Sabbath-esque. Were they listening to Sabbath while jamming out this tune in the studio? I wonder...

The production is awesome! I love the way everything sounds so warm and inviting, even when Anthony cranks the distortion. The drums sounds real, not forced or drum machine-y. Awesome start. And the Mellotron intro to White Mountain is stunning.

Most people would claim From Genesis To Revelation as their first finest. I call B.S. This disc pees on that one from a great distance. This; this is their first finest record; and it's something they would build on in the future. 5 stars.

 
Actually, not a bad review, although relatively short, it at least touches on the music.  But then, in the last paragraph it falls apart.  First:  most people would claim FGTR as their first finest?  I would claim it was their first...sure...but who claims it was a great album?  And second, if one of my CDs peed on another one of my CDs from a distance, boy would the offending CD be in trouble.  Not sure it was really necessary for that line to be there.

4%20stars In March 1973 I was a 16y rockfan and went to Genova Italy to attend the Deep Purple concert presenting their Made in Japan stuff! The support group were UOVO DI COLOMBO ! I have vague memories of them playing just a few songs after been literally thrown out of the stage by people throwing bottles, fruits and other objects . At the time security was a still to come concept . I was pressed against the stage in pole position where I stood for the 6 previous hours. I could not remember wether they were good or bad, I went there to see the Deep Purple. NOW 35 years later, I came to collect and listen to the top 25 italian progressive groups ald all of their production and I was extremely surprised by the quality of this unique record which has skyrocketed the opinion I had of Uovo di Colombo. Considering their short career (only one record) I am considering one of the few lucky to have seen them live, although unable to appreciate them at the time because of age and circunstances. Possibly the same happend to some drunken sailor in Hamburg in the very early Sixties at the Star Club..+ Fiore Lupo

Not a review at all, he said nothing about the album and the tracks and his personal opinion about the overall album, he focused in memories that is good stuff but not for a proper review i suggest that the author revised this review

4%20stars Here's a review from a person who just discovered the band, since being a former member of a band means you can't give a balanced review. So with that said, I think this album is very under rated and just great. The sound quality may not be top notch but considering this was most likely a local band, its pretty damn good. Dancing Madly Backwards is a wonderful American symphonic album that doesn't distract itself with overtly hard rock or,as much as I hate this term, pomp rock ventures. Its just pure prog rock. And for anyone who is either American or a fan of American progressive rock knows, there is not much out of it around. So I think people should buy this album not only because its a great prog album, but also because it deserves its place in American Progressive Rock History.

jimimac504%20stars Even though I was the lead singer for Axcraft, I can truthfully say that the album is nowhere near great. But that does not mean that it's not worth owning or at least listening. The group has never been paid any royalties, even though it's being sold worldwide on the AKARMA album label which is owned by Bill Holmes. I plan to make some changes on the album and distribute it myself. I am also in the process of releasing a second Axcraft album from tapes that are in my possesion. So try and hold out for my reissue of the first Axcraft album, ( DANCING MADLY BACKWARDS), and the soon to be released second album. Oh yeah, the album is worth listening to, and we were a very good band, to bad outside influences got in the way.

ClemofNazareth 2%20stars This is actually a pretty bland album, and the few reviews I’ve read all seem to come either from former members of the band, family members, or other close friends. Axcraft clearly never made much of an inroad to the music community outside their immediate area.

This is also their only album as far as I know, and I don’t believe the band was in existence for very long either. There is very little information to be found about these guys, which leads me to believe they were a local band that made whatever living they managed by playing small venues and as an opening act.

The keyboards are not complex, but they are played in a typical seventies American style – i.e., fast, spirited, and pretty much in synch with the electric guitars. The drum work is decent at best, and the lyrics are mostly light and vaguely spacey in nature and theme.

There are some decent piano passages, notably at the beginning of “Astral Love” and a little bit on the title track. Otherwise this is a mediocre album, and pretty forgettable in the spectrum of seventies music.

There are a couple live tracks at the end that actually sound like they are open-air recordings, not even from the soundboard. I’m not sure if this is accurate, but in any case the recording quality is quite muddled and a definite distraction from the music.

I don’t know much about these guys, and frankly haven’t spent much time trying to find out much. Akarma released this on CD for some reason, but you probably won’t find it except by accident. Or if you make a real attempt to locate it, but don’t bother. Two stars.

5%20stars Although there is a negative rating on the Axcraft album from clemof nazareth or bob moore or what ever name he's hiding under,you can easily tell he did not listen to the album. Maybe he had the flu or his head is still up his ass. I have reviewed many more rock albums than the afore mentioned "critic" and I use the term loosely. The recording was done at A&M studios in LA. my Michael Von Verdict, who was the engineer for the Eagles. The group was offered a very lucrative contract. I think the A&M people know a little bit more than Mr. Richard Cranium,(dick head,) get it/ The only review done by family or friends was the lead vocalist who did not give the album rave reviews unlike Mr. Cranium mentioned,uninformed as usual.The album is worth listening to, and it has really great music on it. You have to remember this was recorded in the seventies and not today. The album must be very popular because it is in it's third pressing. So you might want to take another listen after you've cleaned the wax out of your ears Mr. Cranium. Lanny Westbrook

1%20stars Bright and jolly, but ultimately tiresome.

After the darker Tarkus epic, ELP produce the much more maligned Trilogy, which seems to be closer to BSS in sound, and as some may know, I feel it's overrated rubbish. Too often I find bands being pardoned for their weak songs as a sign of the band having a "sense of humor". Strange that these ideas are never looked at in another way, in that, maybe others do have a sense of humor, perhaps we have a knack for good comedy, and think of the musicians as just plain bad comedians.

Such is the case with ELP here again, with "The Sherrif" among others. It's just filler for ELP's quest to stray as much from songwriting as humanly possible, to in a strict sense, masturbate with their instruments. Take away the flair, the gaudy lights display and marketing of a big name, and we are left with little substance - little music. ELP are more than able to play their instruments, but as evidenced by the circus of Endless Enigma, the slow and rarely captivating From the Beginning, the "we need an end to this long solo effort" on Trilogy (which actually has a good piano section at the beginning), and the overextended march of Abaddons' Balero, one wonders if ELP ever had a concept for songwriting.

Such is the case for how I see most of this record. If you're looking for virtuosos of the instruments, you will find much better elsewhere, and if you're looking for songwriting you'll find much better across almost all of prog. However, if you are looking for a big show with lots of lights, spazz, and a big name to market, Trilogy might be right for you.

 
I think that since this guy is a prog reviewer , he should be aware of the ratings he gives because this may lower the album's overall qualification
 
Morover , how on earth this guy happens to be a prog reviewer? , he writes like a 13 year old fanboy!
Since the moment you wrote "I FEEL IS OVERRATED RUBBISH" your review deserves no respect.
I think that collaborators should be aware of ELP's reviews 'cause some of them are terribly biased.

The review is harsh and confrontational at times. While I'm not keen on the tone, I don't think it crosses the line and breaches our guidelines.

The main problem, John, isn't the text itself but the rating which seems not in accordance with the first sentence... at least a 3-star rating should be applied. Anyway, knowing the story now we see the rating with different eyes.
 
Dealing with but this 2-star review affects little the general album rating.

I agree, I actually resigned myself to leave it alone when I first saw it, and I wouldn't have minded a few 2-star or even 1-star reviews from people who, let's say, don't like new Symphonic prog, so that it could inform potential listeners who might not like it -- but when I re-read it and realized who wrote it, and that he had made a comment about the singer's physical condition (the singer was heavy because of a kidney condition which has now been cured by a transplant, his old kidneys weighed 70 lbs), then I thought it was becoming a little too personal - it was as if he had it in for Dave and wanted to make it seem as if someone in the general public thought he should be replaced...(Which is what he was proposing to do)...

I believe that review http://www.progarchives.com/Review.asp?id=176466 should set an example and be deleted.

 

When we take music to the physical territory, it's time to delete, if not we should avoid listening Dave Gilmour, Greg Lake, Clive Nolan Peter Gabriel because they are overweight; or Steve Howe for being too thin or Mr Robert Wyatt because he is in a wheel chair, this is stupid and must end fromn the start.

 

If we allow this, we are accepting discrimination.

Let's take that one to the reviews discussion thread Ivan. It seems you take exception to the words "..and physically" which are an aside, not the main thrust of the review.
 
For ease of reference, the text is:
I highly recommend the music of this band. The chords, arrangements, form and patterns are heavily influenced and inspired by some of the melodic prog-rock bands of the past. HOWEVER the very uninspired vocals do not do any of the melodies justice. They should be up an octave, actually sung, listen to Gentle Giant maybe some Yes or any other strong singer. They hold the band back from what could be a very enjoyable event. Supposedly they have some theatrical background...but they need to get in shape muscially and physically...have you seem them live??? Heavy keyboards and some new material on the horizon?

5%20stars This is one of the best live recordings I have ever heard , as simple as that . It brings you all the energy of Rush`s early numbers without losing (that much) sound quality. The set list is astonishing, the songs chosen are among rush`s best material. Highest tracks: In the end , Fly by night / in the mood , and Bastille Day
 
 
Just because I think it was my first review and it brings no info for the potential listener/buyer.The rating is no exageration however the review is very poor.

3%20stars I dont really understand why people have such a broad definition of prog. It really comes down sometimes, or so it appears, toif I like it, then its prog. Man, how can this be prog rock, if its barely even rock?!!! I dont know if the term even exists , but I would say this is something like pop-jazz with a lot of 70s vibe to it. Have you ever felt like dancing while listening to Rush, King Krimson, Genesis, Camel? No? Well, me neither. If this is prog rock, its the only one I know that makes me want to dance, sometimes cheek- to- cheek style. Somehow while I listen to this, pictures of black people with big afros on a dance floor flood my mind, maybe its just me. Now, is the music bad? Not at all, in fact, its very enjoyable, and has some very elaborate melodic easy-jazz segments, with great musicianship. But, does that make it prog? Not in my books, cos'it still makes me want to dance.... Im not saying this is bad, its quite good, but take my warning, this stretches the prog label until it starts to break. Three stars for the album in itself, but One star if youre searching for progrock
