Lou Pinella deserves all the credit in the world. He turned the Cubs around completely. They really deserve a championship.

Wouldn't that be one of the signs of the Apocalypse?

I wouldn't be surprised at all if the Cubs went to the World Series. Besides: Boston, the White Sox, all the curses are ending.
And looks like the Yanks have bumped Richie Sexon out of the lineup. Not a big deal/surprise. However, they sent Melky Cabrera down to AAA!!!???? He has been slumping, but that guy IS their center fielder. But hey, when things are bad, make any change you can, and hopefully it'll send Melky, and others, the message: You gotta start hitting!

OK: The Yankees are done for this season and this game proved why.
They fell down 3-0 and got on base alot but just couldn't move them. At one point they were 0-9 with runners in scoring position. However, they did manage to tie it up 3-3, just to have Mo, (who has been shutdown this year) give up a run. In the 9th inning, 2 outs they get the bases loaded. Giambi pops it up, game over. Yea, they have a realistic chance of making it on paper, but they are just not there. Watching them play you can see it.

Mo just can't get it done in tie games, and I can't figure it out. It's hard to blame Giambi for that. If Justin Christian doesn't get picked off, the game is probably tied before Giambi come up.
I just saw the news on Melky and Sexson. No surprise with Sexson; the Yanks were running a four-man bench where one of the guys could only play first, and only against left-handed pitching, and that just wasn't gonna last very long. Melky definitely needs something to bust up this bad year, but it seems to me that the guy who needs the attitude adjustment of being sent down to AAA is Cano. Melky seems like a hard-working guy who happened hit a bad year, while Robbie seems like a very talented guy who is playing badly because he no longer has the drive and energy he had when he was a minor leaguer fighting to keep his roster spot in the bigs.

Ah well, hopefully this year was a fluke. I mean, the WHOLE team is slumping including people like Damon, A-Rod, JETER. This is just not normal. Anyway, I hope the Yanks keep up this years work and have faith in their team/minor leagues. I doubt it though, with all the talks of them buying Manny and CC next year But yea, that pick at 1st base was just disgusting. Considering that would've had runners on 1st and 2nd, and after the pick they got the bases loaded....that DID end up costing the game. But still, basically this same offense last year could make up 6 or 7 run defecits in an inning or two. Taking all game to get 3 is unexcuseable.

Pick-up was a little ridiculous. I believe they would of doubled damon off anyway. Right to the short stop, bang-bang play.
What I didn't understand was Mo.... Did Girardi feel like flirting with a statistic that is completely assanine, but holds true every time?

The game will be on in an hour, good, I'm looking forward to spinning three 'Air' cd's while watching it.

Well, Leyland doesn't really have any options in his bullpen besides Jones and Rodney. Zumaya is on the DL and Farnsworth is just plain bad. And I seriously doubt the Tigers have a better shortstop than Renteria stashed away somewhere; the fact is, short is probably the thinnest position in the league right now (well, maybe catcher).
But I bet they've got somebody better than Sheffy somewhere.

Kind of like the back-up quarterback or the bullpen set-up man, they are always better than the starting quarterback or the closer until they actually become the starting quarterback or the closer. The Tigers backup shortstop Ramon Santiago has twice the range on Renteria in the field and and has been carrying a .300 plus batting average the entire season. It remains to be seen if he is actually better than Renteria but I really like his chances of being better than him this year. Way back when, when ARod was on the disabled list somebody mentioned how horrible the Yankees' backup third baseman was in the field. Well that is Renteria. The strategy against the Tigers is hit the ball on the ground to the left side of the infield. The odds are highly in your favor that it will find a hole.
The Tigers really laid a stinker last night losing to the Orioles 11-2. It actually wasn't "that" bad until Todd Jones came in and contributed to 5 or 6 runs in the 8th inning.

It seems to me like Damon is the only one who has consistently contributed this year. Jeter's been hitting a lot better lately, though he's still in the .280's, and A-Rod has just been in free-fall for the last two or three weeks. He just struck out today with nobody out and the bases loaded, and it was like seeing A-Rod two years ago when he couldn't even have good at-bats. He chased the SAME EXACT SLIDER IN THE DIRT twice.

Yea, the team is done. 10 games behind the AL East, behind 2 teams. Behind 3 teams in the wild card, and watching them play is just sad. I was listening to ESPN radio and they said something I never thought of, or was in denial of. Jeter could just be having an off year, and who knows with A-rod but maybe in regards to Melky, Cano, Abreu etc we just over estimated their skill?
Oh, and also try moving some people around. Why keep A-rod in that slot when he's just not performing the why he should? Put Nady in. Do something, dont be afraid to move people around.

Cano hit well over .300 his second year in the majors, so the talent is definitely there. Bobby....well, this is probably his last year. If I was Cashman, I wouldn't renew his contract, since Nady is on the team with a batting average 40 points higher and the ability to actually play defense. As for Melky....I don't know. Maybe he'll never be what we expected from him, but I bet that after a few months of working his tail off in AAA and an offseason of trying to get himself back to the big-league level he'll be near what we want out of him.

It's a tough one, have faith in your people now for next year? Or do some radical changes? ie Going for Manny, CC dumping a few people (I usually hear Abreu, Giambi) Who knows...

Who would have thought that 3 guys would have been ejected from the USA vs. China baseball game?

I find it impossible to care about olympic baseball when I the best 1000 baseball players in the US (arguably the greatest 1000 baseball players in the world, the way MLB farms and imports players) are currently playing here rather than Beijing. To win that must feel quite hollow; congratualtions, you're the best 25 men not good enough for the majors!

Maddox went to the Dodgers after all. Good to see him in a place where he can actually win a ballgame or two.
Gotta be kinda depressing for him, though. He's arguably the best pitcher since the dead-ball era and he just cleared waivers.

LEARN TO CATCH DAMON
Second drop today, and it'll probably cost them the game.

Also, I laughed when I saw that the Yankees currently have CARL PAVANO penciled into the starter spot vacated by Kennedy. I wonder if he'll actually play again...

Pavano? Strange, I thought Hughes outpitched him in their minor league starts. Oh well, either one isn't really a bad thing.
Yanks lost the first game, Damon had fault, but still, the team wasn't able to hit.
They just need to keep winning series. I hope to god they don't play Halladay.
