Absolutely love Pain of Salvation... I've got all of their albums and
they're packed full of so much variety. Daniel Gildenlow is, indeed, a
genious. he has an absolutely fantastic voice as well.

There is absolutely nothing in Opeth that reminds me of Dream Theater.. Also, they are the best prog-metal band. |

To clarify it to people, Dream Theater are influenced by Heavy Metal, some Thrash Metal, Progressive Rock, while on the other hand, Opeth is influenced by Black/Death Metal, Doom Metal and Progressive Rock. The Progressive influence is even different since Opeth is more influenced by Psychodelic Rock, while Dream Theater is influenced by Art Rock or Symphonic Rock. Easy as that and DT does not have a growler like Mikael... Which makes the music extremely different. Opeth also does not "wank", it is purely atmospheric. |

In all honesty I never hear any thrash on DT albums - they seem to be inspired by the bits of Metallica that aren't very thrashy, and that's about the closet they get

You can ask me the same question!! |

Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

To be honest, the first album doesn't differ much on the 'heaviosity' scale... |

The first album is not even close to what Metallica is. It sounds very much like Queensryche with Bass solos, better drummer, better guitar solos and Kevin Moore's amazing keyboarding skils. Probably one of the best first albums ever along with POS' Entropia and Pink Floyd's Piper. |

I don't care much for either of those albums compared to the respective bands' later works, so maybe the DT debut isn't my cup of tea either
It's not just the heaviness I'm talking about, but the actual style. Having listened to a fair bit of early '80s thrash in the last couple of days (inspired by Certif1ed's old musical endeavours |

OCTAVARIUM SPOILERS: In the title track, James LaBrie SHRIEKS like a metalcore shouter: "TRAPPED INSIDE THIS OCTAVARIUM!" over and over a few times near the end. It's wicked. ![]() |

A matter of taste. Many consider him to be the best prog vocalist alive, I myself am among those. |

Hey, you two, don't start again with that! We don't want this thread to be moved to the "not related with music" section, do we?

daniel gildenlow is the mariah carey of prog music. and i love it!!!! BTW, to the ones that are bashing eminem, why dont you give rapping a try and see if you dont sound like a complete ass. rapping takes talent, and is just as valid a form of music as prog is. there is no "good" or "bad" when it comes to music, there are only preferences... |

Hey Colin, I think you've got lost and found yourself in the wrong forum... here you are amongst a group of mild mannered lentil eating hippies who wear loud waistcoats and cords... sadly not a baseball cap, tattoo, jump suit, item of jewellery or bad attitude anywhere in sight... here we are completely BLING free! |

i personally think that inconsistent is definitely the wrong word to use. "varied" is much more fitting. i can see why there are some songs some people like more than others, and there are definitely songs which i didn't like when i first listenened to them. however, after sticking with PoS and listening to each album a good few times, the songs i originally hated seem to be becoming my favourites! as for the vocals... to me they sound consistantly amazing throughout. Daniel Gildenlow has an amazing voice... i love it, and i don't understand why so many people have a problem with it. ![]() |
