MICK, I've watched the whole game and I almost had a heartattack...I'm a huge Rafa fan, but Federer has made such a return, I've just never seen anything like this final...I just sweated myself out at every point after the score went 2-1 at sets...congrats Rafa, congrats Federer!! what a final! Clap

the previous year, Rafa was even more brilliant against Roger (so this wasn't quite the most special final ever) but couldn't held his nerve till the end...so glad he finally did it...Roger played fantastic, never gave him the slightest of an oportunity till the end...but the way Rafa pulled it through...just made my day...Thumbs%20Up

(we should say more specifically that, at Wimbledon's gentleman's single final, Rafael Nadal overcame Roger Federer 6-4, 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-7(8) - my god, what a tiebreak this was!!! my GOD!!!! - 9-7) Wink

I know... how about that point Raffa played to get to 7all in the fifth..  the defensive lob Roger threw up that actually landed in play that finished with the Raffa forehand winner.. wow.  Jumped out of the chair clapping on that one.  Big Raffa fan as well... but by the end of the match.. was rooting for both.  The quality of tennis..  wow.

At last, Federer was beaten at Wimbledon!

Rafa deserved that win.  Federer never looked quite as polished as he usually does.

tell me about it...that was the definite "heart-stop" moment for me...

otherwise, I just prayed for Rafa to finally break Roger's implacable service...it was his only chance, I knew the tie-breaks would go over to Roger...how late did he managed...how awesome...

ah, I will have a hell of a good dream tonight, after this game...

He wasn't himself till rain interrupted the match in the third set...that's why the final wasn't that incredible on both sides...Federer not being polished...Rafa not finding incredible shots, only suficiently powerful and offensive balls...

but after the rain, Fed returned like a championed...I truly believed he'll return and win again...

both deserved, hands down!

yep... one of those matches you are applauding both of the players...  you know Roger wasn't going to go quietly.  I guess round 3 comes up in NYC in a couple of months.  Would like to see Roger break Sampras's record though. He's been a great champion.  Might be tough now though.. Raffa is still a kid.. and still improving..

at the US Open, Rafa never made it past the quarterfinals...I'll rather except Djokovic to go hard  again, just like he did in January, over at the Aussies...

otherwise, sure, Roger gets the trophy...and closes in one shy from Sampras's 14 Slams

That was spectacular.  I'm a RF fan (I like the quiet, mannered athletes in an age of screaming bravados) but was thrilled for Rafa too.

Wimbledon rocks.

I haven't followed tennis for a long time, but I caught the end of this one and I agree with what everyone's saying.  That was incredible, it's like Johnny Mac said afterwards about Raffa winning, but nobody really lost...and a big score for the sport because the men's side has begun to pick up some much needed steam again.

I was almost in awe of the humility both guys showed afterwards, Rafa saying the Roger is still number one and the greatest of all time...those guys are pure class.

I've been a huge tennis fan my whole life, and I have to agree this was the most amazing match I've ever seen.

I'm a HUGE Roger Federer fan, so it was kinda a blow to me, but I absolutely loved every minute of the match nonetheless, and I know that Rafa got a much-deserved win.

Wonderful world-class playing from both of them. Clap

The next thing that will be interesting now is how Wimbledon tournaments will go in the future...

yeah.. been reading some comments on some other forums. Some yeahhos are saying Federer is washed up.. . pfffff...  he needs a couple things..

starting with

one .. a coach..

who'll tell him two things...

strengthen up... because he is simply being outmuscled out there.. and two... improve the backhand..  Rafa sending the heavy top-spin shots to Rogers backhand brought consistantly weak replies.  The guys on the tube were dead on... what separated them this day was the backhand..

for sh*ts and giggles.. read something somewhere...  the average  tour player's forehand give the ball a rotation  of roughly 2500 rpm... Rafa's.. is nearly 4500...  he hits such a heavy ball and knows where to attack Roger.

Introducing the Olympic Singles Gold Medalist and, starting tomorrow, the new ATP number 1:

Congrats for Fernando Gonzalez, improving from Athens' bronze to silver, and to Novak Djokovic, who made a good run till the bronze spot.
