have you heard the song "Stefan, the Shepherd Boy" by Olive Mess, from their "Gramercy" album? it's over twenty minutes and is definitely telling a story, in a sacred music kind of way - much of the piece is just for voice and a guitar playing medieval type progressions and cadences, but it progresses into a sort of psychedelic folk rock as it goes on. It's really something; very hidden from symph prog fans since Olive Mess are in avant, or zeuhl, but it's a great and really memorable piece of music. I know avestin would agree. =)

Dream Theater's In the Presense of Enemies, 6 Degrees, Octavarium. (And I'd like to see the AA Suite finished)

Rush's 2112 of course.

Porcupine Tree's Aesthenized [I know its not over 20 minutes, but its certainly epic].

And I think I could comply with Colors as well.

The Odyssey by Symphony X is a great one. It gets truly epic near the end. Maybe The Divine Wings of Tragedy too.

Light of Day, Day of Darkness is an awesome song clocking in at a full 60 minutes, but it's a tad depressing/melancholy.

Ok, I'm going to recommend ALBUMS that tell a story.

Rick Wakeman -- Journey to the Center of the Earth
Jon Anderson -- Olias of Sunhillow
Jeff Wayne -- War of the Worlds
The Moody Blues -- Days of Future Passed
Rick Wakeman -- No Earthly Connection
Frank Zappa -- Joe's Garage
Rain -- Cerulean Blue
Pallas -- The Sentinel (Ignore the first three tracks.)
Triumvirat -- Pompeii

EDIT:  Symphony X -- V: The New Mythology Suite might or might not qualify as well, as might Queensryche -- Operation: Mindcryme.
