The Tigers-Cardinals game just restarted after a 2 hour and 25 minute rain delay.  I stuck around for the first hour and a half, but after they took the tarp off, and then put it back on and said there was more rain in the area we decided to leave.  The game is tied 5-5 in the 5th inning.  It rained the entire first 5 innings but they kept playing until it started to pour in the topy of the 5th, so they finally went to a delay.  Hopefully, the Tigers come through for all of the fans that stuck around for the end of it.

I hope the Tigers win by three runs or less because I have Todd Jones on my fantasy team.

I would be happy with that.  Although, with Todd "The Roller Coaster" Jones as our closer, I usually hope they have a larger lead then 3 runs.  Although, I must say he has pitched pretty decently this year.  Knock on virtual wood.

The Tigers/Cardinals game is tied 7-7 going into the 9th inning.  Isn't it almost always the case that when you have a 2 1/2 hour rain delay, you also wind up getting a long game.  The game started 5 1/2 hours ago, so they have played 3 hours on top of the delay, and with a 7-7 tie it is quite possible this might go extra innings.

When I was in high school, oh so many years ago, I was in attendance at a double header between the Tigers and the Indians (if my memory serves me right).  I don't remember too many details, but I know that there was a lengthy rain delay and that the second game of the double header went 15 or 16 innings.  Needless to say, I had to be somewhere else that day, so I was long gone before the second game ended but some of my buddies stayed for the whole thing.

Yeah!!!!!!  The Tigers win 8-7 with a walk-off single from Gary Sheffield in the bottom of the 9th.  He actually had 4 hits today in his 2nd game back from the disabled list.  The rest of the league had better watch out if he is finally healthy and starts hitting the way he is capable of hitting.  Personally, I have felt that he has been all washed up this year, but the last two games have definitely been cause for hope that he might actually be of help instead of a hinderance.  Here's hoping.

BTW, Todd Jones didn't get a save, but he did get the win so that should help the fantasy team.

Nah, I'm leading wins by like 15.  I'm bottom of the pack in saves, though, so that's what I really needed out of him.

Phillies finally broke their losing streak. Who else is excited?

Tony LaRussa appears to be overmanaging today.  He pulled out Wellemeyer after 5 innings in a 0-0 game.  It appears that Wellemeyer has missed a couple of starts so they took him out for precautionary purposes.  LaRussa brought in lefty Ron Villone who proceeded to load the bases, and then walk rookie lefthanded hitter Clete Thomas to make the score 1-0.  LaRussa just went and changed pitchers again to bring in Jason Isringhausen to face Gary Sheffield who has a .417 career average against Izzy.  Stay tuned for the results.

Edit:  Lucky for LaRussa that Sheffield has fallen back to old ways and hit the ball 400 feet...

unfortunately it was straight up in the air to the Shortstop, where most of his flyballs have gone this year.

Not me, my Buccos lost to the Yanks 10-0.

Too bad. I was hoping that he'd hit one. I hate LaRussa and the Cards. Wellemeyer is on my fantasy team and it hurt me that he pulled him.

Since when is LaRussa's problem pulling pitchers too early? Shocked

Well the Tigers won 3-2. I guess pulling Wellemeyer paid off in the end.

Sidney Ponson (yes, THAT Sidney Ponson) threw the ugliest 6 shutout innings I've ever seen.  Twice he had the bases loaded, and even the outs he got were ugly outs.

Eddie Bonine pitched a spectacular 8 innings for the Tigers as he gave up only 1 run on 5 hits.  The first hit came in the 5th inning.  It was a good game and a nice night for a baseball game, although it was a bit on the muggy side after the storms rolled through and dumped up to 3 inches of rain just prior to the game.  The Tigers are only 1 game below .500.  They are 15 and 4 since falling to a season worst 12 games below .500.  Unfortunately, Minnesota has won 9 in a row (or is it 10, I'm not sure if they held on to win tonight, but I assume that they probably did.)  Whoever has Curtis Granderson on their fantasy team must be really loving him right now.  He has a 15 game hitting streak, and is batting over .500 in his last 7 games.  He was 4 for 5 today with 2 triples, 2 singles, and a stolen base.  I think that he scored 2 or 3 runs today too.

Granderson  has been the key to their move up the standings.. and was I think a HUGE reason for the slump at the beginning of the year when he was injured

So, the Yanks are owning the Pirates IN Pittsburgh when it's rained out
then today go to NY where they are killed by the Mets (in Yankee Stadium) then go on to kill the Mets later (at Chea stadium) Wacko

I think Ponson's gonna last about three more starts before he gets another DWI and finds himself unemployed again.

^ Ouch, but hey if it happens as long as he has 3 more good starts before he's arrested LOL
Because without Wang the pitching needs all the help they can get.
Only Mussina and Joba seem steady right now(whod imagine?)

Yeah, Moose has been a monster.

Andy's been fairly consistent as well.  They should just drop to a four-man rotation, it's better in every way.  In fact, it's been proven superior by SCIENCE:
Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
