Picked up GTA IV, and by the looks of it that'll be consuming my life for the next while.

Yeah, GTA4 is probably...and I don't really want to be so hasty...the best game I've ever played. For an action/shooting type of game, it's essentially flawless. The game has frozen twice, which is somewhat irritating, but it gets everything right; gameplay is smooth, Niko interacts with the environment just how you want him to, the physics rock,  the story is fantastic, the dialog is the best in any crime-based game ever..and surely among the best ever in any genre. It's not cartoony and it doesn't have stupid, half-baked RPG elements like San Andreas. It gets everything right.

I agree on all points(except my game hasn't frozen up).

I just did a mission called Three Leaf Clover that is a bank robbery and the cinematics in that mission are awesome. It reminded me of the heist in the movie Heat.

BTW..just unlocked Alderney and have the whole city open now.Big%20smile

Heh, some folks aren't into fps games. It's understandable. I grew up playing PC games, but most of my friends that haven't, aren't a fan of most genre's that originated on the PC, like fps & rts style games.

I know. It's just that from my perspective these are essential games, and everyone who's into "computer gaming" in general should at least check them out. If you have a half way decent computer you can probably get Half Life 1 for less than $10, and it's much more than simply a "shooter". Of course you're free to not like it, I'm just saying that it can't hurt to try. Smile

a lot of people don't have computers powerful enough to run Half life 2LOL

I just started Metal Gear Solid for PS1, and I plan to get the box set of the series soon.  Hopefully, the first one will work on my PS2 since it has issues with running PS1 discs....

Donkey Kong 64 was so epic it needed the expansion pack.  I still remember like half of the rap that started that game.

Some time in a long weekend of something I'm gonna have to whip out a couple of classic N64 games.  DK 64 and Banjo Kazooie in particular.

that's just what happened, and I get warped into this epic work of polygonal glory.
With that sort of hard joystick on your gray or atomic/see-through purple (zomg) controller
no speech, like a cartoon, except for that sweet, sweet monkey rap

and lanky kong is amazing

The transparent controller is good, but it's not NEARLY as good as my GOLD controller.

Playing Zelda on that thing is epic.

I've actually been going mostly backward in time, playing all those classics I missed.  My personal favorites so far are Mario 3, Super Metroid, and Megaman 2.  I just got up to the final boss in Earthbound today.

Josh just lent me an N64 with DK64, Banjo and Super Mario 64. Mario is best so far. And I'm already stuck in DK on the first boss.

You young uns.......

I remember when Pong came out and my best friend had it and we played constantly.

I was the first person I knew to get an Atari and we used to hook school and play all day.Man,I thought that thing was high tech!

That is why I am not into retro gaming much,I have kept every system and every game I have ever owned, but my kids and wife play them. For me,I have been there and done that.
