Topic: Your thoughts on Between the Buried and Me? Posted: May 11 2008 at 00:50 |
I got "Colors" from my friend a couple of months ago, and it took time to grow on me, but now it is one of my favorite albums. I also just got "Alaska" from him, which isn't as good IMO, but still good. I'm really looking forward to seeing them on Prog Nation '08, although I wish they had a longer set .
How does everyone else feel about them?, and Has anyone seen them live? How is their sound? and Is it as good as the studio recording?
Thank you all in advance .

guilty pleasure of mine though those who like Dream Theater might wanna look them up first rather than assuming because there is definitely a difference, especially vocally

all I gathered from that is that you dislike the vocals strongly and that you think blues solos are lame

Not a big fan of this band. The vocals pretty much prevent me from enjoying it.

Me want to see Your thoughts Buried? Sorry, sometimes I come across a topic I know nothing about and I feel compelled to get silly. Dig me don't bury me.

Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

While I liked Alaska, I think with Colors they've reached a new level and I find this album excellent (and in any other discussion I wouldn't even mention the vocals, but apparently it's an issue here, so I'll just say I don't have any problems with them having listened and loved this kind of music for long and other bands with much more "challenging" vocals).

Colors was an excellent album (even if they cant spell colour ) and I dont mind the vocals at all, though I think they could have made more use of clean vocals.

Great album but not to everyone's taste. Not a lot like Dream Theater.

They're the future of prog metal, definitely taking the genre to a new level.I have seen them once live,on their Alaska tour.It was in a small club and their sound was really good, but not quite as good as their studio recording.I'll be seeing them later this month on the 27th and will get back to you if there was any improvement.

Colors is flat out amazing. So fresh, varietal, impactful, and a bunch of other positive adjectives. One of my all-time favorites for sure. Alaska is fantastic, and The Silent Circus is also quite good, but you tend forget about them now that Colors is out. I do agree with Sleeper in that I would love to hear more clean vocals next time around. I'm quite content with what they're doing now, though.
I saw them last weekend on the Prog Nation tour. They played very well, but the sound wasn't great since the band wasn't given a decent soundcheck. The vocals definitely sound better on the album (I can't think of any vocalists who don't, though), but it's funny seeing how such a small guy can belt out those growls, not to mention a very impressive clean vocal as well.

I had a friend say he saw them open for Dragonforce , and said they were easily the worst bandd he's yet to see live, and I'm not being biased either.

Colors has its moments, for sure. i dont really like it overall, but it's a decent album and one of the few albums of its kind i can get into. Sometimes the sound is just too loud. the second song's opening is a perfect example. i also found the vocals (especially when he was grunitng/screaming) to be very one dimensional and boring. he mixes this up occasionally with more high pitched screams and singing which is nice but there's not enough of it. the instrumental work almost makes up for this tho. the short, jazzy song is awesome and i really like Informal Glutony which is the best song they've written yet. Alaska is about on the same level in my book, Colors is just more realized artistically.

Ugh, count me out then! Anyway, I like some of their older stuff. They're a decent deathcore band, but that's about it for me. Good music ruined by puke-worthy vocals and lyrics.

They are a very talented band, but not my cup of tea.

I'd say they were more like one aspect of the future of prog metal, bands like The Pax Cecilia, Grayceon and Mastodon have just as big a claim on that.

I have seen them live. they use triggers on the drums, otherwise the sound is superb and you can actually hear the bass playing. Colors is great.....like you said, Alaska is not quite as good.
