Check this out
The live album and DVD is particularly exciting to me. I heard somewhere that SW's upcoming solo debut is supposed to be incredibly diverse, covering all of his influences. If this is the case it should be really interesting. I know some of this is old news, but for those who haven't heard it all here it is.

Going to see Crimson as well in New York hopefully. Can't wait for that one. With regards to PT I'm also really looking forward to the new DVD. I think the Arriving Somewhere DVD was done very well so I have high expectations for them.

Sweet. Damn, if this isn't the best active band in the world right now, I don't know who is. The Pink Floyd of the New Millineum (I know they don't like those comparisons). If the music business was like it was circa 1975 or so, including FM radio, this band would easily be the biggest selling, most well known band of this era. Radiohead my arse.
Also can't wait for the live album and DVD, I hope they don't go crazy with the cutaways and the mixture of color and black and white on the live DVD though. Just give us a straight "You are there" view of the gig. No need to be artsy. Let the video footage do that.
You got to love how prolific Wilson is..........

Everybody here should check out some of the previews for the new No-Man album. It looks like it'll be a great one, if not one of Steve's best. Also his solo album should be great.
Here's a video for one of the songs on the new No-Man album, Truenorth: http://youtube.com/watch?v=PkDOXuGtB_o |

I will be at ALL NYC Crimson shows in the orchestra section woot!...but look forward to all the releases sans Barbieri's and Edwin's work...as they don't really do much for me.

I will be at one of the NYC KC shows hopefully (if I convince my dad). I am extremely excited for the new PT concert dvd and cd....one question I have though is if they are going to be doing the same sort of thing Opeth did with the Roundhouse Tapes...recording and filming the same gig..releasing the recording first and the dvd at a much later date..but I'm not sure if it's the same show being recorded...does anyone know about that?

I have listened to a lot of Radiohead, and I am going to see them in a few months. Simply put, PT blows their doors off. I want Radiohead live to really impress me, so I am keeping an open mind, but they will be hard put to top live Porcupine Tree. Radiohead for some reason became a media darling, while PT gets little ink and lives in relative obscurity. Based on talent alone, there is no reason for this dichotomy. For one thing, Wilson has a much better voice than Thom Yorke. That in itself puts Radiohead behind big time. I have to like the lead voice or its a tough listen. Second, PT has a much more melodic sense, with more varied influences. Wilson can go from pop to metal without blinking. Radiohead is not as versatile IMO.
I don't deny Radiohead some props and influence. Heck, Wilson is a fan of Radiohead, and so they have influenced PT. My comment was a statement at the over the top "anointing" of Radiohead as THE cerebral band, THE new Pink Floyd etc, when based purely on musical terms, PT shreds Radiohead to ribbons and is much more deserving of the "new Pink Floyd" label if that has to be used as a demarcation line.
