The problem is, good person, that Ivan gives the facts and the arguments, you just answer in.... slang. So, if at times you seem to be that thing that you think I believe you are, it's because of that.
Facts and arguments fuel discussion. "Slang"... well, "slang" kills languages, therefore, it kills discussion.

Salvo, there's a misunderstanding between you and T, he's allowed to be an atheist as we are allowed to be Catholics, he's not a jerk, so please stop this attitude. T didn't attacked your faith or mine, he simply didn't perceived the attacks that happened here, so lets go back to the issue and ignore the attacks, we will always receive tthem, just state your point with arguments.
Iván

I wasn't talking to T anymore. After our initial misunderstanding, T has been fine. I was talking to StyLaZyn.

Sorry to have hurt your feelings. I have a very personal reason for my distaste for the Catholic Church which now extends to all religions collectively. Click here, http://www.ricoforkids.org/about.htm
I know this "Jimmy" personally. I have witnessed cover-ups first hand. I have seen the destruction of a family, due to loyalty in their religion, through the abandoning of the victim, who would be their own flesh and blood.

I'm sorry that that happens, but some evil people doesn't invalidate anything. Need I remind you that the most ruthless dictators of the 20th century were athiest? (Not Godwinning the thread because Hitler's atheism is questionable)

Likewise, some evil atheists don't invalidate any positive change atheists bring.
BTW...unless I'm mistaken, Hitler and the Catholic Church were quite cozy together. I first heard this when a co-worker, who is a Seventh Day Adventist and looking for new joins, told me that Hilter met regularly with cardinals and other high level Catholics, including Pope Pius XII. I was told Roman Catholism was to be the official religion of the New Reich. This doesn't mean I believe it but there are some incriminating photos out there. Here's the kicker. At the time, I was a regular communion taking church goer abiding by the Law. I couldn't believe what he was telling me and denied it blue. Odd how things change. |

That's not a strictly accurate statement - many of the 20th Century's dictators (or Presidents-for-life) were not athiest, yet still managed to be ruthless and "evil". Stalin's atheism also waivered.

Not only that, but Stalin's arm quavered. Hard to tell which was more important to history. |

Yeah...That's pretty much slander spread by those who wish to discredit the Church. You can find some "pretty incriminating" evidence for almost anything--just ask a 9/11 Truther. However, that doesn't really matter, as there were many popes in the past who did much worse things than maybe be kind of complicit with Nazi Germany by not violently protesting and risking Church sovereignty.
But this is off-topic, and, honestly, pretty retarded. Edited by Salvo_ - April 07 2008 at 20:57 |

If I may just throw a comment here, the thing is that in dictatorships like Hitler's or Stalin's, the actual "party" and the "system" become a religion. Nazism in itself was also a cult and a sort of religion so it was never going to embrace catholicism. if you analyze dritten reich events and everything around it, it's a cult: processions, parades, banners, flames, signs, big swastika crosses and always the face of the redeemer omnipresent. very much the same with the USSR when it was less personal and more partisan, where the religion was created around the communist signs (hammer and hickle), around the apostles (marx, engels, lenin), and with mighty parades that only served to show the people the new god: the state. Other dictatorships that were more leaning to the right side like Pinochet's tried to get closer to the catholic church with mixed results. So, some religion is always present. Just not the one you think. if some catholics were with hitler, many weren't. If some atheists were with Stalin, many weren't. That the leader himself is one or the other doesn't matter: in the end his persona will assume the role of God, so big ego is on this problems. In china Mao created a "bible" (the red book), so in the end these dictatorships always try to capture the essence of cults and belief systems and convert them to their needs. it's not exclusive of catholics or atheists. Actually, both catholicism and atheism are thrown aside to the gutter once the new Cult is powerful enough to dominate, like with Mussolinni. Don't blame either one. Blame the PEOPLE. blame Hitler, not Germany. Blame an specific priest or bishop, not the whole thing. Blame the person, not his disbelief. Actually, the only true atheist revolution in history (where all type of cultism was eliminated) which was the cambodian one was.. well.... in the end it degenerated into another cult, a cult to "Angka". So, it's not that atheists make it much better. The lack of a hypothetical powerful God above people makes them believe, sometimes, when they have all the power, that they're actually Gods.

The point is not a typo Stylasyn, the point is spreading lies that contradict history without any verification.
BTW: I may have a few problems writing in a foreign language, but I don't have problems with the truth (Not talking abouyt spiritual issues, but about facts that can be verified).
