On a recent amble round the omnipresent satan of supermarket chains (ASDA for those not in the know) I found myself in deep philosophical thought, something about the application of Marxism in a post-WW2 age..I was struck by something more serious upon approaching the bakery.....

What was the best thing before sliced bread?

Unsliced bread. You can still get it that way. It's old school, but I like it.

To really have answer this question in a serious way I'd need to know the actual date sliced bread was first available...
Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

The chicken.  Or was it the egg.  Hmmm.  Which came first?

If I'm not mistaken the egg is the earliest phase of the chicken, so in a way they came at the same time.
