Hey everybody, I'm on DIRGE's epic track right now (somewhere about 56'23"  ). Both CDs are massive, and this track is no way boring or something, very atmospheric and enjoyable...thanks for recommending this in this thread guys, I liked it!

Glad you liked Dirge,Igor."Wings of Lead Over Dormant Seas" was one of the best post metal releases of 2007,imo.Nothing on the double cd's bores me,and the epic just leaves me enthralled from start to finish.
I also highly recommend their last album "And Shall the Sky Descend".

I would get them in 2007, but it's hard to buy CDs like this in Ukraine  so I probably will get "And shall the Sky descend" to 2009
"Wings..." is easily a 4-star album (vocals still a hard nut for me to crack...but I cope with it  ), I gotta return to my reviewing activity

So I was on vacation over the weekend, and sadly didnt get to listen to Talk Talks laughing stock...
Anyways, before I left I posted a praise filled comment on Kayo Dots Myspace and added them as a friend, I come back five days later, and I have three bands, including Chuck Stern from the now defunct time of Orchids throw a friend request at me! Pretty sweet stuff!
Oh, and also one of he bands that shot me a friend request was the band Ehnahre, whao have some ex-Kayo Dot members. My comuter wont let me listen to any of they're songs on myspace though...

i think im starting to like Gemini becoming the tripod. ive been listening to that CD a lot and, while its nowhere near Choirs of the Eye, its enjoyable. very dark and menacing sound. puts me on edge.

I'm intimidated to get it...
So, I'm listening to Agalochs newest EP right now, and it souds nothing like how they're described, and I've also heard from various sources that the EP actually very different. I want to hear from my fellow post metallers they're opinion on this EP.
KW, True choirs f the eye is miles ahead, but Dowsing is a pretty solid four stars.

I have only heard bits and peices of the EP but from what I have heard on their myspace it is completelly unrelated to the rest of their body of work, basiclally if their songs don't sound like an american more epic Morningside (a band I know you know) then it isn't traditional Agalloch sound, it seems to be a sidetrack from their catalog into folk terratory. Check out Ashes Against the Grain to hear them at their most post-metal.

I just checked somthing... on their myspace it calles the white EP "a collection of dark folk and ambient work" so basically it admits it has nothing to do with the rest of their stuff... hope that helped explain.
anyway the music from the new EP sounds amazing from the bit that I have heard.

im pretty excited. i like accoustic and ambient and folksy, good word choice, gets me excited to hear the EP. im glad it'll be different too, AAtG got a little samesy (tho its still 4 stars or so) i think i prefer The Mantel.

Amazing EP indeed, the best I've heard from 2008 so far. VERY simple and minimalistic, folk/ambient in nature, but very melodic and atmospheric. "Sowilo Rune" is my personal favourite for now

I agree, I think the white EP is beautiful, and definately in the runnings for best of 08. Would I be impressed with any of they're other stuff? I heard it's very doom metal, and considering my love of the doom instrumental bands like Omega Massif, I think I would like it. I also heard they're very black metal, which is kind of a turn off, especially if they play typical ridiculus black metal drumming, the worst style of drumming EVER!
Though I must say, after listning to the latter part of Wolves in the throne rooms vastness and sorrow, my interest in black metal has grown.

musically, they're not very black metal....they're kind of black metal like Opeth is death metal, namely, mostly in the vocals

You need to check out WitTR's first full-length album Diadem of 12 Stars.

Yeah man, you need to check out some older Agalloch. Ashes Against the Grain is fairly accessible and very beautiful and melodic. Harsh black metal vocals are scarce. For me, it's almost like "Panopticon" done in black metal style.
Most would agree that "The Mantle" is their masterpiece, though.
Also, I've been getting into Enslaved lately. Isa and Ruun are awesome, but I haven't ventured much farther back than that.

agalloch sounds a lot like The Morningside, who i know you've heard. Its not doom at all and the vocals sound more like a whispered, high pitch growl- they mix that up with a clean, soft spoken sort of singing every once in a while. Very folksy.
- and im also liking Dirge very much. i just got they're newest two CD-er yesterday. good recomendation.
what does september malevolence sound like? are they on the site?
