Two great bands. I always liked Yes (well, always since I started listening to their albums), but I couldn't appreciate Gentle Giant in the beginning, except for Acquiring The Taste. Now I must say that GG's music has really grown on me, especially Three Friends and Octopus. GG's Giant In The Box is one of the best progressive rock video's I ever saw.
Still, I keep listening to Yes albums, and I like almost every album they did from the seventies a lot, but also the debut, 90125 and AWBH. Even when I heard them many, many times, they keep being exciting for me. So I vote for Yes.

Both these bands are lovely. I'll cheat and vote for Gentle Giant because I like more of their songs. (because Yes only released about 25 songs during their classic period, kekeke)

Not easy to vote at all... Though I love GG's unique take on prog, Yes have always been at the top of my personal list of favourites, so my vote goes to them.

I haven't heard enough Giant to make a real judgement, but I think Acquiring The Taste is one of my favourite albums in terms of how acquired it is and how memorable it is once acquired. Not voting here, though I think that in the end CTTE would destroy all.

I can't choose... I love both so much... I'm voting for GG just because Yes has so many votes, though.

It is pretty much the same for me. Although these groups do not belong to my very favorite ones, I regard them with a lot of esteem. And without having a serious preference for one or the other, I go with GG to balance this poll.

Well, thanks to everyone who participated in round 1!! (especially since my bracket is barely in second place)
Here are the matchups for this round, for whomever is interested: Round 2 E1. #1 Genesis v. #3 Dream Theater E2. #4 Camel v. #2 Emerson, Lake and Palmer F1. #1 Yes v. #3 Gentle Giant F2. #4 Marillion v. #2 Rush G1. #1 King Crimson v. #3 Van Der Graaf Generator G2. #5 Mahavishnu Orchestra v. #2 Jethro Tull H1. #1 Pink Floyd v. #3 Porcupine Tree H2. #5 Opeth v. #2 Frank Zappa
This should be interesting!

Someone said they don't forsee too many blowouts, but that's exactly what I see for the first four brackets. I do think KC v. VdGG will be very interesting, and the last three seem harder to predict. But the first four will be Genesis, ELP, Yes and Rush without a doubt.

And rightfully so!!! GG is. . . ok i guess. but its a difficult sound to get into. I much prefer Yes. Yes, Yes should win it. Yes all the way. there is no way Yes can or should be beaten, except maybe by Genesis (and thats a stretch i said it) . PS - when you say 'yes' that much it kind of loses its meaning... its a weird feeling.

you predict ELP walking the dog with Camel.... the same CAmel that smoked Magma... Magma... oh no.... there is an affinity at this site for the prog-lite of groups like Camel and Genesis. I'll be surprised if ELP is close.. more so if they win.
