Rap and Hip hop are completely seperate things.

Hip Hop is the sh*t you hear on the radio, complete with pimps and ho's, and goofy sounds to make a rythym.

Rap is The hardcore songwriting with very little backround noise to distract from the lyrics, featring groups like Immortal technique and Jedi Mind tricks.

I dont like either groups, but there is a lot more respect in respect in rap than hip hop.
If those are the defonitions I like both rap and hip hop, for rap I love Immortal Techique and Dr.Octagon. For Hip-Hop I love Madlib, Dj. Shadow & Heliocentrics,
who hiccuped endlessly trying to giggle but wound up with a sob

^^ I always pictured the distinction more like, the old skool stuff like Grandmaster Flash and Run-DMC, and also newer but more classicist stuff like Mos Def and Jurassic 5 as Hip Hop, and stuff like Ice Cube and Tupac as rap. Both have a few OK artists, but mostly suck. A Tribe Called Quest is my favorite Hip Hop group, and Tupac is my favorite rapper, simply because he has flow and is easier on the ears that most; his lyrics are still awful.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. I've always considered the older, more lyric oriented acts as hip-hop and the newer, more rhythm and image appeal acts as rap.

I've always had a sort of personal loathing for rap.

Emo music is awful, fake emotions are just annoying.

Rap music I don't like particullarly. Gangster rap I find completely dispicible.

Since "I don't put a lot of energy into things I don't like" isn't an option I didn't vote.

I just have to show you guys this

Some of you will hate me, some of you will worship me. Most of you will remain indifferent, but will admit that this is epic.

I have come to the conclusion that KingCrimson776 was the only intelligent life form to answer the questionClap One person that answered the question tried to convince us emo "isn't crap". Another gives us a list of "Real emo bands" and "pop punk bands" so we can distinguish between the two genres. i believe they forgot to mention the distinct similarity: IT ALL SUCKS!

I actually like the artsier, more genuine, older, and non-sucky emo (aka the real stuff like Sunny Day Real Estate, Mineral, Dear Ephesus, etc.).

Rap is completely nonsense to me, not even music to my ears and contains absolutely nothing I can possibly find enjoyable.

I think it's everyones right to say that they don't like a particular genre, even if they have only heard a few mainstream representations of it. If the parameters of that particular genre mean that nothing in it could possibly be enjoyed, then why can't someone say they dismiss it in it's entirety?
I find the fake emo emotion coupled with whiny singers to be intolerable - period.
And most rap, to me, barely qualifies as music. Rythmic poetry by cavemen over a drumbeat maybe, but not music.

In saying that, some "hip hop" is pretty good, e.g. Rjd2, DJ Shadow, Portishead, Massive Attack etc. That, and the fact I hate whiney little teenyboppers, means my vote goes to emo.

I'll say, i never thought that you would like a band with Jared Leto in it. :) Are you sure they are any good? I am very open to all sorts of music, really. I have given up on that "image"-thing, when i only listened to prog and thought i was so cool because i bashed power metal, but i have always thought 30 seconds to mars was aband which got airplay simply because Jared Leto was in it. I'd be happy to be proven wrong, however.

I really enjoy their debut album. Like I said before it reminds me of Post-Rock, Tool and a bit of King Crimson.  I've heard that their second one isn't as good and more commercial than artistic.

I'd say emo, but really, both genres suck. A lot.

I have problems understanding the concept of "emo". It is not a term that is used in Germany, at least not to my knowledge.
