Mixed feelings, The horns/woodwinds are a double edged sword, while the do add to the atmosphere, they kind of give the music a lame sound, they are also a bit overproduced so it takes away from the metalicness.

An extremely experimental band, with post metal tendancies, and extensive use of woodwinds.

I've checked out Generations of Vipers a while ago, they're great, same with Wolves in the Throne Room. I'll give Orthodox a listen, but I am listening to Jimi Hendrix right now (my guilty pleasure!)

Good to see Orthodox being mentioned around here. I don't see them as a Post-Metal band, but more as an avant-metal band. The music's very atmospheric and I wasn't really expecting this (I checked them out thinking they where a Doom Metal band.... guess I was wrong). Still a good album. I need more listens to make a valid opinion on them.

HOLY CRAP Wolves in the Throne Room are freakin awesome. Good black metal is hard to find, but these guys do it right.

Listening to the few songs by Orthodox on their myspace site. Sounds interesting.
I had been listening to Earth - Hex Or Printing In The Infernal Method and Sunn O))) & Boris - Altar earlier this morning. I think they have an edge on Orthodox. I agree with the earlier comments concerning the horns/woodwinds - sometimes they work.

I'm sorry. Just kidding. They happen to be the one post-rock band I don't care for too much. Enjoy though.

Perdition City is equally as sublime in an avantgarde experimental electronic way.
The Marriage of Heaven and Hell has elements of both BM and advantgarde and is IMO their finest.
Bergtatt is folky Black Metal - I wouldn't recommend it as your next purchase if all you have is Shadows of the Sun.
