Talented young musicians

Good luck.  The closest thing I can find people into is the more progressive side of metal.  I'm 26, and my old friends (who were into prog to various degrees) and I went separate ways geographically.  If you're planning on going to college, you may have some luck there.  The problem is you need 2 things: people into prog, and people who can play their instruments to some degree of impressiveness.  Then you get into issues about the band as a whole, and what direction you want to go in.  I taught myself other instruments (once you learn one, additional ones aren't as problematic) and am learning the art of recording.  Doing it all youself might be the best option if you can't find anyone else.

musicians who play "disposable pop", or punk musicians, or heavy metal musicians, or blues musicians, country western musicians...etc., etc, etc.

unfortunately, musicians who are genuinely interested in playing progressive rock here in the U.S. number about  ____.

it's easy to get a band together these days [to perform any of the above mentioned forms]... BUT,  most [not all] musicians in the United States - under 40 - are not only NOT interested in playing progressive...they don't even know what it is.
[there are musicians even here on this PROG web site/ forum whose music really isn't prog]

2. of the top 20, how many are from the United States ? one band.

My point is this:  you are probably not going to find any musicians there in your neck of the woods who are interested in playing progressive music who are under 40 OR over 40...
and neither am I where i am.

Good Progressive Rock music is just not as popular here as it is outside the U.S.

yes...but i think his point in the original post included the idea of what KIND of band ...
i gonna take a wild guess here ... and say that this particular band probably was not a progressive sound.  that is part of the issue in this topic

Perhaps if you composed all the music yourself and assembled a group to play it with you would work better than finding a band and trying to get them to like prog.

with my band i kind of lured them in, but they were music college students and were into mainly jazz and classical in the first place so i don't really know. best bet is to get people looking for a challenge.
