Have you guys heard of the band Manatees? They've released one album and one EP.
Their Post-Metal is very psychedelic, but still punchy and emotional like most bands on the genre. They've went even further off with their EP which is the strangest Post-Metal (if you can call it that) album I've heard. They rarely even use the guitar on the EP! Still a great band. Their debut is highly recommended. Check out their samples: http://www.myspace.com/manateetheband |

My last.fm name is 'FD2'. :)
I've been listening to some Yakuza lately...some of it is brilliant stuff, but some of it seems slightly unfocused. |

bah! this thread is depressing me! I have so many bands I have to check out, and no time to do it with.
Can we take a break from this thread for a while so I can catch up?

I know how you feel, too many CD's to buy, not enouht time/money. Schiz, yes I was reffering to Sigur Ros- () which is probably going to be a little too slow for me, though perversley I think I might like GY!BE. Speaking of which, is the track Moya (the sample on their PA page) a good indicator for what they are like? Edited by sleeper - November 13 2007 at 12:23 |

^^^^ Moya is a good representation of GYBE's music. It starts up slowly and gets progressively louder as time passes after it reaches its climax. The mainly notable difference is the track length, most of the songs are either slower than Moya or have more than 1 crescendo on the song (other songs are more optimistic, pessimistic, more atmospheric, etc.) Variations aside, its a good example of GYBE's music.
P.S. Get "Lift Yr. Skinny Fists Like Antennas To Heaven". Its their best album (and my favorite album of all times). |

if it means anything, from what I've seen Kayo Dot and Godspeed You! Black Emperor have a bit of a fanbase overlap I personally prefer GY!BE....and as chamberry said, yes, Moya is very representative. My only disagreement is that I prefer Yanqui U.X.O., and Lift Your Skinny Fists is probably my least favorite for some reason....then again, people have opinions that aren't always the same either is really a good starting point |

That I'm happy!
If this band hasn't been recommended yet, I'd recommend Daturah. Ambient Post-Rock. Edited by King of Loss - November 14 2007 at 09:41 |

Great band! The music's slow, but they make some great climaxes after the hypnotize you with their atmospherics. You need to voice out your opinions more. I didn't knew you where a fan of post-rock. |
