probably why no one has commented...
Since we don't have a band name yet, I've hesitated on creating a myspace, so I just put the tracks in a .zip file on megaupload. Just follow the download link and the tracks are there. |

Good stuff. I'd love to hear it. I started a heavy post-rock band recently (not really metal, but often heavy). I started a thread with a link to some of our rehearsal recordings here: http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=42158 but no one seems interested We've written 2 songs since then, both of which are quite awesome, but we don't have any good recordings of them yet. |

Yeah they are. To basically repeat what others have said, good post-metal bands are Red Sparowes, Pelican, Russian Circles, and The Pax Cecelia (which I'm listening to now) |

Maybe we can turn this into the post rock appreciation thread, and the post rock/experimental appreciation thread can be the experimental appreciation thread.
My band is doing one instrumental, where one section is very very post metaly! If you were to hear just that one section, you would think you were listening to Isis.

Mogwai is awesome, but definitely not metal. They're one of the archetypes of post-rock. very big, lots of dynamics (heck, they practically invented the loud-soft-loud thing.) I'd recommend Happy Songs for Happy People. Back to the post-metal, just found Generation of Vipers www.myspace.com/generationofvipers |

I should probably mention that my parents are money nazi's, and refuse to buy music online for petty things such as music, such arragance!

Hmm... that's actually pretty tough sometimes unless you've got a really good indie music store nearby. I wouldn't count on finding any at Best Buy. However, their individual band sites and label sites are reliable and have good service. A good start is Translation Loss Records http://www.translationloss.com/ Hydra Head http://www.hydrahead.com/ there's more, but those are a good start. |

Well, you are the post rock specialist.
Last time I was at my semi respectable music store it in the mall, I saw some Mogwai. Are they any good?

You might like CULT OF LUNA and CALLISTO
Others that might interest you are:
RED SPAROWES, ROSETTA, RUSSIAN CIRCLES, GIANT SQUID. (I'm forgetting some, I know).
I wouldn't judge Neurosis solely on that last album (and they're not supposed to be post-rock). Try The Eye Of Every Storm Times Of Grace and Souls At Zero

Are any of these bands big enough to find at a good music store? |

Oh my, where to begin?
A recent favorite of mine is Rosetta... they're a bit simpler in philosophy than Isis, but their sound is just huge. They're just epic post-metal with as much reverb as possible on every instrument, and lyrics based on Arthur C. Clarke stories. "Metal for Astronauts", if you will. Their sound took a bit of getting used to, even for an Isis fan like myself, but I still think they're pretty great. Their debut LP "The Gallilean Satellites" is their best IMO... better than their more recent release. It comes as 2 discs: one is a straight post-metal disc, the second is more experimental, dark ambient material... and they're meant to be played simultaneously! A great listening experience! Other than that.... Minsk Callisto Cult of Luna MARE Russian Circles My favorite genre of metal! |

I am probably putting this in the wrong place, but this will probably rouse some good debate.
So, I got Isis' Oceanic about three weeks ago, I put it in a poll the day I got it with a handful of other albums. After all this time, I decided that this album was easily my favorite of the nine or ten I put up (even though it has like a 3.6 rating which is preposterous). I am also getting some of their other albums too soon.
I wanted to know about other post rock/metal bands that are out there that are as good as Isis. I cant really tell whats post and whats experimental in our post/experimental genre on the front page. I have some Pelican, who are good, but don't really have the substance behind them that Isis does, and Neurosis is hardly post rock, at least given to the rising isn't.
Any suggestions or questions?
