This time last year I was so excited over the fact that my Detroit Tigers had made the playoffs for the first time in 19 years, and yet dreading the fact that they were going to be swept by the Yankees. They made a heckuva run last year to only get thumped by the Cardinals in the World Series. This year both of those teams have to sit home and watch the games with the rest of us. Not nearly as exciting for me this year as it was last year.
The Cubs/Diamondbacks series is intriguing to me because of who is on the bench more than who is on the field. The bench coach for the Cubs is former Tiger's snubbed Hall of Famer and ex-manager Alan Trammell. The bench coach for the Diamondbacks is Kirk Gibson former Tiger great and ex-bench coach of the Tigers. Of course, these guys will have little affect on the outcomes of these games.
I guess that I am hoping for the Indians or the Red Sox from the American League. Don't really care who comes out of the National League. I suppose that the Cubs would be intriguing because of the curse and the Rockies because the playoffs are quite the rarity to them too. But I have nothing against the Phillies or the Diamondbacks either. (Although according to interleague play, the Diamondbacks are the Tigers biggest rival. When the New York and Chicago teams were playing each other twice a year, the Tigers would play the Diamondbacks twice. Never understood that accept for the fact that a lot of Michiganders retire to Arizona).

root against either team. Hope it goes five.. with a finish like the

Hi Micky, I saw that you were a Tigers fan in another thread awhile back. Good taste in music and baseball teams. That actually earned you my vote on the Micky vs Ghost Rider thread. I see the Rockies jumped out to a 3-0 lead. I don't know too much about either team, but I know I do owe the Phillies a debt of gratitude for trading Placido Polanco to the Tigers for Uggy Urbina. That is by far the Tiger's deal steal of the century.

Big a big Tigers fan for years.. was so nice to see them
come back and do Detroit proud. When I was Michigan I made it to
several games ..as well as catching them when they came to
Baltimore. Saw the Tigers at Fenway as a matter of fact as
well. Surprised at the game so far.... that Hamels is a hell
of a pitcher... hasn't looked so hot so far. Well.. the game is
far from over. Plan on being planted in front of the TV all
night hahhaha.

I am a lifelong Michigander and Tigers fan and a fixture in the seats down at old Tiger stadium and now Comerica Park. It has really been a blast the last two seasons.
I made the trip to D.C. this past summer to see them play at RFK.
Tonight is opening night for the Red Wings so I am shifting gears to hockey tonight and will miss the playoff games, but I am sure that I will catch my fair share of games over the next month.

Funny I've also read somewhere, I think wikipedia - which of course can be really inaccurate, that rugby was the second most popular sport in the world, but to be honest I doubt if either sports are no# 2

I sort of instinctively root against the Rockies because they have set such a spectacular historical precedent of sucking.

Yep they sucked, except when they had such a team with Dabnte Bichette, Larry Walker, Andrés Galarraga, Vinnie Castilla, etc, and reached the post season.

So you don't root for the underdog?
My Boston Red Sox are doing very well. We got the game 1 against the Angels on British TV and Beckett destroyed them.

I can tell you right now the NL west has some of the best young teams in the game and the Rockies are right there. (I'm a Dodger fan) If they can get some consistent bullpen pitching I don't see why they can't go far in the postseason. The same goes for the Diamondbacks.

I was rooting for the Rockies because they were on such a hot streak and I thought it'd be cool for them to actually make it in, but I really didn't care either way.
Yanks play the Indians tonight. We've done pretty good against them so far...

I think Formula 1 is actually about the 20th most popular sport in the world at best. The NFL even is probably ahead of it.
The rugby world cup is the 3rd largest tournament in the world, so it may be the second most popular sport, behind football which is obviously number 1. The problem is that in some parts of the world, rugby league is huge, and in other parts rugby union is huge, which are two different sports.

2-0 down after two home games. Isn't that exactly what the Twins did last year? Hit fire at the end of the season to snatch their division then just stall in the playoffs.
Wouldn't it be great if Colorado won the world series? Maybe next year will be Tampa Bay's next year.

I would love it, i live in colorado and the rockies have always been a bit of a joke, I would love to be in denver if they do win, it was great to be there when the avalanche won the stanly, people were crazy.
