I'm nearly 44 and I'm looking forward to reading the last instalment - whether a book is primarily aimed at a certain age group is irrelevant; if the book is well written, it can be enjoyed by anyone.
 
Agreed, I've recently read Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy - an excellent read and not "just a kid's book"

I bought those for my 10 year old niece for her birthday at her request.I must admit I was impressed.Not only at the books but at her precociousness.

I think that these books are really fantastic. They are well written and imaginitive as well. Furthermore they have done a great service for childrens books both by pushing what they can do (note the Order of the Phoenix was over 700 pages long) and have really rejuvenated the sector.
   How can you compare this series to the epic song of ice and fire which are adult books and also masterpieces.

Way overhyped, but not bad.

Philip Pullman's 'His Dark Materials' trilogy is much better when it comes to fantasy.

Yep,
His Dark Materials is an excellent read and superior to HP in my opinion. It makes the reader think and question stuff.
Not all the characters are simply good or bad, there is a depth to it that hopefully they will keep in the film

Yeah, when I saw the trailer in the theater recently my jaw dropped!  I am so pumped, even though it doesnt come out until december.  Clap

I did hear that they removed all direct references to God and the Church from the movie to make it "financially viable" in the US, and all references will be euphemisms directed through the Magesterium...

You mean like they changed the first Harry Potter movie title from '...The Philosophers Stone' to '...The Sorcerers Stone' in the US, as they were concerned about the use of the word "Philosopher"?

Or the way they changed "The Madness Of George III" to "The Madness Of King George", in case they thought the original was a sequel...

I thought that I wouldn't like the story as much when I got older, but the story got a lot more interesting and complex. Wasn't bad at all. Good reading when you don't want to think too much about what you're reading.

At least it pretty much closed the book (no pun intended) on the series; Rowling always said there'd only be 7 books, but can you imagine the temptation to write more, given the demand?

Of the series, the only one I had any issues with was '...Phoenix'; always saw that one as a bit of a filler, not really moving the narrative on - having said that, I still enjoyed it & thoroughly enjoyed the film too.

Have to disagree I'm afraid; OK, Radcliffe/Watson/Grint aren't the greatest of acting talent the UK's ever seen, but so far the films have had the advantage of good directors, screenwriters who know what to cut or keep & a supporting cast of A-List actors more than able to raise what could have been sub-standard adaptations to good films in their own right.
