I don't care what people say, but still I specify...Peter gabriel's Genesis.

If I had a buck for  each time i heard the question: When did Peter Gabriel sung in Genesis? I would be rich.

No they're music was sophisticated enough to explicitly have a "style" that they wanted to continue doing, but they're not repetitive, and they have more than one song!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've heard that before^

Easy i'd say Pink Floyd, it would be true  and i would be believed. More difficult if it was Gentle Giant or PFM, i would believe you but it's a big and mostly ignorant  world out there.

Erm... I say Iron Maiden, because it really is my favourite band. LOL
Sometimes I mention The Beatles as well. And if the one who asks the question is a metalhead, I also mention Manowar. And if he/she's a progger, I sometimes mention Rush as one of my favorite bands as well. Those are my 4 favourite bands, and sometimes I mention all of them.
And the sand-castle virtues are all swept away
in the tidal destruction the moral melee.

Invent a band name, and laugh on the inside when they say "Oh yeah, those guys are pretty neat."

Yeah, once, but I couldn't hold the laughter in, and they caught on, and then rushed away in a blushing frenzy.

I just kind of nod and smile slowly. They'll usually ask if you know who they are. Tongue
