I'd also do it. I know a lot about the band, but you guys probably don't care, because I'm kind of a newbie. I would be very happy to add them regardless.

Though only SCs and Admins can materially add bands, you can do something even more useful, as Bob requested: that is, writing up a GOOD bio, which highlights the relation of the band to prog, and of course a complete discography. Adding albums is open to everyone, so there should be no problem with that.

As I stumbled across this thread, a peculiar detail caught my attention: several of the people who are convinced Cobalt&Calcium should be here uttered their greatest disagreement towards Metallica being added in any way to the archives a few months ago. Ironic, to me, as C&C seems(again, to me) nowhere as progressive as 80's Metallica. I've been listening to "In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3", and excluding the overly pretentious song titles, I see very little in this band that's more related to prog music than most indie bands nowadays. The title track, for example, just seemed like a 3-4 minute song that was drawn out to fill some disc space..... But that, of course, may just be me and my biased opinion. I felt a slight disgust towards the band from the first time I heard that horrible voice. He sounds like a poor Cedric Bixler-Zavala impersonator, except for the fact that his voice was nowhere as awesome as Bixler-Zavala's. Unless you find men sounding like girls awesome

I have a pragmatic view of it: If a band does not bother to put some progressive material on their homepage, then they don't want to be in here. From the material on the C&C homepage I conclude this is the case with this band.

Then you might object to other definite Prog bands not doing it either?

I don't know of any other prog bands that include music on their homepages which is not prog, but fail to leave out prog music. Please name one to me.

Bands plug their single(s) in their homepage - that's fair and not unreasonable.

Couldn't have said it better myself... read my post below (far below).... The singer sounds like a mix between Bixcler-Zavala and one of those singers in those "rock bands" that play in proms in every teen movie.... yes, the box looks prog, the titles sound prog.... the music IS NOT. The first track has some prog sounds to it, but then all gets lost in rather typical, better-than-average MTV rock.

While this may not be 100% an absolute truth (there may be exceptions), I also fully agree. These guys don't make any effort to show themselves as "prog" nor do they show any kind of influence or even respect for prog... Do they?

Well then one must ask themself what Prog music is. You suggest that the C&C music is not Prog. Actually, their last release is a concept album. Songs they choose to put on their flash intro more than likely were picked to enhance sales; something any working artist would like to generate.
Give the entire CD a listen. At a minimum they deserve Prog-Related along side The Who or David Bowie.

There are far more "related" bands that should be added to prog-related, including the one a fellow member mentioned below....
But remember: Korn now has strings and silences in its music (New York Yimes review) so maybe it's prog related! Linkin Park people talked about prog... they ARE related....Co and Ca do concept albums... they ARE related....
Really, I've herad (I have it) In Keeping.... one track is not enough to make a band prog.... and not even that track is full prog... just proggy....

Along those lines, Finger Eleven has a track called "Quicksand" in 11/4 (4+4+3 actually), but has another track called "Panic Attack" that keeps switching time sigs. Prog elements indeed.

They nammed a song "2113" in homage to Rush. They essentially rip-off Pink Floyd in "The Final Cut", and live Travis Stevers sings his solos as he plays them, something I'm only aware of Gilmour doing prominantly.
Also, Chris Pennie has left Dillinger Escape Plan to join Coheed as their drummer, replacing Josh Eppard formerly of the band 3 (just recently added here).

Then that changes my perspective but only in regards to what Baldfriede said, as it's obvious that these guys don't fall into the situation she mentioned.
But the fact remains that the MUSIC itself is not overly prog. As I said, most of the material sounds like better-than-average MTV-sweet-sixteen-rock. There are moments, but unless I'm wrong and IN KEEPING is their worst album, (I've read otherwise but I'm ready to accept a mistake) I don't think they qualify. Specially considering that other more qualified bands have been denied entrance to the Archives Realm.

good to hear that 3 got added and hopefully with such a talented drummer as Pennie (I don't like Dillinger but his skill is undeniable) they can crank out a really good album...one can only hope however. I see them as Prog-related and therefore not too pressing to be added. They do acknowledge prog influences, however, as you have said

Having listened to "Apollo" a good few times now I have to say that if this isnt a Prog Rock record then it is very close. Definitely Prog-Related. It wears it's influences on its sleeve, namely Rush, Floyd and Queensryche. We have to accept that with time genres evolve. Bands like Muse, TMV, Radiohead and, yes, Coheed and Cambria are redefining what prog is in the new millenium. I am absolutely flabbergasted that there are people saying they can hear no link between C&C and Prog. That is ridiculous. As to whether they are are a Prog Rock band, based on the whole of their work, I'd have to say no. But Prog-Related? Sure thing.

Two friends of mine got me into TMV and Coheed and Cambria because they love "Latin Music" (They define anything made by Spanish speaking artists as Latin, not by the actual sound). I must say C&C could definitely be in prog related. They have many ties to the bands Tony mentioned.

As I said before, I take the pragmatic view. Coheed and Cambria obviously don't want to be regarded as a prog band, else they would put some prog material on their site. I may be wrong about them not being prog, but if so, why does the band deceive me in the first place?

Friede this has more to do with the music industry's attitude to bands if they are labelled "Prog". Until relatively recently it was considered to be commercial suicide for a band to describe itself as Prog.

I can entirely appreciate your view. But I believe Steven Wilson once said that he found it pleasing that Porcupine Tree could not be pigeon-holed into any given genre. So using your angle, Porcupine Tree would not be Prog, or at least as I understand it.
