Yes, another sports thread.
Any baseball fans around? Talk about your favorite team/players/your predictions or just baseball talk in general.
Personally, I am a life long Yankees fan. I guess it may just be false hope...but I really think they will make it into the playoffs.
Pitching has gotten to a decent point and the offense has been pretty explosive.
BTW I was inspired to make this by the Yanks beating Tampa Bay 18-3 by the 6TH inning.

Athletics are my team, not doing so well this season but usually great for over-achieving.
Thoughts on Barry Bonds homing in on the home run record?

My team the Royals are improving, but we have a while to go. We have a pretty good pitching staff, but really lack power at the plate and a descent outfield. The new revenue sharing is helping the smaller markets a little, but baseball is FAR from where it needs to be.
As for Bonds, I think the guys a real rectum head and makes me sick that he'll take over a record held by a true class gentleman of baseball.

...Oh, we made it to the 1st post before someone mentioned it.
I don't like the guy. And I know plenty of players roid up, but I really think his case is different. I think he deserves all the extra flak he's getting, because he is about to break one of the most prestigious sports records..with s huge dark cloud over him.
But it's OK. Eventually, whatever number Bonds puts up will be broken by A-rod.

I'm a Phillies fan. I'm hoping they could stay in contention, but I won't hold my breath. Their pitching is awful and the trade deadline won't help with all the mediocre and below average pitchers available. Obviously injuries don't help, but it's not like Garcia and Lieber were pitching great anyway.... At least their offense has been terrific. Utley and Howard are up to 81 RBIS, and Howard has 27 homers. I'm amazed at Jimmy Rollins's numbers, he's hitting for power this year.
And since everyone else has mentioned Bonds, I'll just say I don't like him, and I think he took steroids.

It's tough to be a baseball fan when you're a Pittsburgh Pirates fan...

Another A's fan here, you can always count on good pitching no matter who suits up...Billy Bean knows his stuff

I actually tend to take it easy on ol' Barry. Despite being a grumpy narcissist, and of course all the allegations, he doesn't deserve to have syringes (sp?) thrown at him in addition to the booing and media hounds. Keep in mind that he's never failed a drug test.
But it IS sad to see Hammerin Hank lose the record, the guy was a class act and symbolized all that was great about the civil rights era.

I had to pinch myself. After the Royals took 2 out of 3 from Boston, we turn around and 2 out of 3 from Detroit. Now for the dreaded Yankees. I don't have a good feeling because they're playing pretty good ball right now.

Yankes win 21-3
They have been on quite a hot streak, and they're playing much better but this HAS been an easy team streak.
Hope they can keep it up though.

Did you say 21-3?
That's a football score. Damn who were they playing, the Bad News Bears?

I confess I know nothing about baseball and that it bores me nearly as much as watching golf. However, i take great interest in Bonds' potential to cheat his way to immortality. Why this has been tolerated is beyond me

Man, I love watching golf and baseball (well, baseball has recently caught back up with me since the playing field is slowly starting to level out and there is some sense of parity). The British Open was enjoyable to watch...especially the playoff between Garcia and Harrington. Congrats to Padraig Harrington on his first major win.
Nothing will top Football (college and pro) for me.

Long time Phillies fan so I'm used to be disappointed by my team. If only we had a solid pitching rotation we'd be unstopable :( .
I hate Barry Bonds and I think there should be a large asterisk next to his name when he breaks Hank Aaron's record.

^ For all those that say that about Bonds produce evidence that he has. All his drug tests have come up clean, All of them. What other evidence do we have that he juiced? On top of that most people who do juice break down early. Their muscle mass become too large for their bone structure and cartilage and tendons. They have injury after injury (Jason Giambi for example)
But Barry is 43 and still playing left field!
For the Record I am no Bonds fan! Quite the contrary I am a Dodgers fan and anything to do with the Giants reeks to high heaven. All I am saying is the truth is the truth. Produce some evidence or stfu.
Now is Barry an ass? Without question.

Sure there is no definitive proof he used steriods, but the size of the guy speaks volumes to me. He should not be given the crown. Hank Aaron did it before steriods were being used. Aaron will always be the king followed by Ruth.

If he indeed used the steroids that he was purported to have used from the leaked grand jury testimony, i.e. the "cream" and the "clear", they are designer steroids (THG) which are precisely taken to avoid detection in doping tests. He claims that his trainer told him they were arthritis cream and flaxseed oil, respectively, and by doing so can assert plausible deniability about the whole affair. The only evidence we have is the testimony from the BALCO scandal, and leads to three possible scenarios, of which the truth will probably never be known. 1. Bonds was actually given arthritis cream and flaxseed oil to take. 2. Bonds was given THG steroids, but was duped by his trainer and had no knowledge of what he was taking. 3. Bonds was taking steroids and knew what he was doing the whole time.
