Only the music snobs that say "anything other than Progressive (or jazz or classical) is 'popular' music" accually CONSIDER rhythm as music. Being a backbone doesnt make it a whole being, African Drumlines are infact... not music. Drums are made to keep the music at pace (and maybe entertain with solos and such) but who the hell has ever heard of a rap-drum solo? It is NOT music for infact it is an element to create music, you CAN have music without a drum, but you cant have music without instruments that create notes, drums have PITCHES not a NOTES. There is rap-music fusions, but that is music, not simply rap, it has musical elements. I know music definitions, but i also know REALITY!!!! a ficticious place to many in this site, from what i can tell.

Almost as many people that want to keep out POP from PA, but hey, if you want to have all Genesis discography you need to add Invisible Touch.

I clearly stated that I don't need rap in MY prog as I simply don't care for the genre. If you want it, then by all means go crazy. I, on the other hand, don't need it nor do I want it. E |

First of all, don't call me a music snob. You don't know me so stop the presumptions and insults. Second, where did you find all those "facts" that you're talking about? The last time I checked African Drumlines are music. Rhythm is music. It's one of the three fundamental elements in music (others being harmony and melody, but you already know that), but rhythm is the only essential element of the three and, no, drums aren't the only instrument capable of making rhythm so I don't know why you brought that out to the discussion. You can music without a drum, but you can't have music without rhythm although you can have music without harmony or melody. Also, Rap / Hip-hip music isn't only based on rhythm. It has harmony and melodies as well. You need to stop dismissing and actually pay attention to the music and you'll see what I mean. |

hehe... so by this unquestionable 'fact', which has been back by concrete logic, it seems about 50% of my collection is not actually music. I cannot tell you how surprised and confounded I was to be pulled out of my ficticious reverie to discover most of the time I don't actually listen to music. Really quite astounding! I guess it is all that dope I have been smoking recently.
Ruben, out of interest have you heard any 'Chopped and screwed'? I have been listening to some of DJ Screw's music lately, I thought it was pretty cool. You should be able to find a good amount of information on his music at 'Allmusic.com' if you are interested. |

^^^ No worries, take your time, I understand about the team listening. I might suggest 3 in Da Morning part 2 as a good starting place. He has over 150 albums, so it is quite hard to know where to start .
