With all the bands mentioned so far you can probably find at least one redeeming quality that saves them from the Pit of Eternal Damnation, for example there was that one song that Aerosmith did that was alright, Joe Walsh as actually quite a good guitarist and even Herr Schulze was in two damn fine bands before he went solo.
I was going to list a plethora of insipid American soft-rock bands that I have a particular adversion to, but once I typed the word 'insipid' I was reminded that the band I really cannot take in any shape way or form happens to be British: Simply Red. As soon as this lot appears on the TV I instinctively reach for the "mute" button then the bucket in quick succession. I cannot think of a single redeeming feature that they possess. |
Yep....Simply Red.
I like Aerosmith though. Very good band.
Fine Young Cannibals is another I can't stand.

I think the following are annoying:
the Eagles Billy Joel Dream Theater Green Day Lil' John Ja Rule Nelly Kanye West 50 Cent Eminem Ludacris Styx Chicago Christopher Cross Lynyrd Skynyrd Eric Clapton's solo career Ziggy Marley Brght Eyes Audioslave post-1976 Rod Stewart Slayer newer Dave Matthews Band work (their early works are well done but I can only handle them in moderation), and hardcore DMB fans (just kidding!).
Anyways thats my thoughts.

Barry Manilow, Michael Bolton, Air Supply, Styx songs like 'Babe' or 'The Best Of Times'- that sappy, saccharine adult contemporary kind of thing sets my teeth on edge!
Have to agree with the nominations of 'coffee table' style dullards like Simply Red, Beautiful South and the like as well.
Most of what NME hypes up to the high heavens as being 'the saviours of rock and roll' (Arctic Monkeys, The Killers, Razorlight et al.) do nothing for me at all- 'the emperor's new clothes' is a phrase that springs to mind. 'Flash in the pan' is another seeing as most only last a few years.

I seem to despise System of a Down. Last week I said like 5 times, at my friends and in the car listening to radio something like "what the hell is this crap, can't we turn the station". And everytime the reply was something like "It's SoaD, and this is great" and they turn it up and sing along.
Yeah, I think, if you can't stand some songs, and they all turn out to be from the same band, that band can't be really good in your opinion. Up to the point where you rather listen to Impaled Nazarene than that certain band. And that band to me is System of a Down. And I hate how they're appreciated and loved because of all the things they do that make them suck in my ears.

I have been developing a serious distaste for Dream Theater (the Rudess years) and it really bothers me. They used to be my number two band. I also been reading on the WIKI about them and all the little things they throw in. Totally banal. Sorry Mr. T.
I hate Springstein and most of the Stones. Styx is for kids. The Eagles need to fly away forever. ANY RAP IS CRAP! I'd like to skin Lynyrd. Red Hot Chili Peppers have no spice.

Cannot help but agree there (well, I enjoy Cypress Hill though).

Rap, as with many past "trends" tends to get "rapped" because of the typical "formula" acts that are pushed out when a particular type of music is the current fad. There are many interesting & intelligent rap artists out there. Unfortunately, the young white teen boy wannabe doesn't care for quality, just for image. Otherwise, the Roots would be the ones outselling 50 Cent & Ludacris. Oh, as an example, think back to the early to mid 70s when the labels put out more than a few execrable prog, hard rock & country rock bands trying to ride the then popular genres to hit status.

^ Debrewguy speaks the truth As for which non-prog rock band I dislike the most... I don't know If I dislike something, I won't listen to it, won't try finding out more about it, and so it easily slips away from the confined space that is between my ears...

I honestly can't stand Guns'n'Roses. Everyone i know has been trying to make me listen to them, saying ill enjoy it. I've heard all their albums and i just don't understand why people enjoy it. Their place is tied with Nickelback, and every single one of their clones. 50cent and Missy Elliot deserve a mention because i can't help but laugh everytime i hear their names in the same sentence as the word 'music'( ).

Have you heard the Roots' cover of Dylan's "Masters of War"? Its really interesting, but nothing great, still worth checking out.. About 9mins long or so. Search for it on Youtube.

I just don't see what the big deal is about 'indie' music.
IT'S NOT A GENRE. IT IS A RECORDING CONTRACT STATUS.
