Are there any bands the music from which you just can't stand, or even the band members themselves? What would be your least favorite band? Non prog of course, but also non-non-rock ()... It would be easy to say "oh, Timberlake is my least favorite musician"... keep it rock please... and civilized..this has potential to grow into a bashing thread, so please, only name your band and some reasons...
Mine I think is Aerosmith. I don't think they're completely atrocious, actually a couple of songs border on decent, buty I just can't stand them. It's just impossible. i hear their music and have to turned it down or have some annoying 4 minutes. I just can't do anything with that band.

my first instinct would be to say DT, just to piss you off. That would not be true though as in all reality my least favourite band that I hate with all my heart and soul is slipknot, they have no tallent and fill their bands with a gazillion members, but worst of all people feel all hardcore and call them death metal, and so give my secont favourite genre a bad name.
it hurts it does.

Any heavy-duty prog band (Dream Theater, Flower Kings, but also nowadays King Crimson - while I love the 1970s ones, and partly also the 1980s). Nothing personal and I've also got no reasons for that. Just a matter of taste (and sometimes also of hairdoes)

Pain of Salvation. I really can't see what everyone sees in them. In my opinion they're overly cheesy and too pretentious for me to be able to listen to them.

When do threads like this ever stay civil?
Whoever someone names in this thread you will inevitably make someone who is a fan of that band mad.

Personally, I have little sympathy with those who are easily offended over differences of opinion when it boils down to matters of taste in art. If they get mad so easily, perhaps they need to grow up.
There are plenty of serious issues in the world to get upset about.
Anyway, there's little music I hate, but I don't care for cock-a-doodle-do rock bands. If I want to hear a bunch of chickens strut their stuff, I'll visit a local poultry farm.

Steven Tylers voice can grate on some peoples nerves, but I think Aerosmith had a lot to offer. They had a string of classic albums in the 70's and wrote some wonderful songs. 'Kings and Queens' springs to mind as well as 'Joanies Butterfly' and 'You see me Crying'
If they had taken slightly less cocaine, they could have been Americas answer to Led Zeppelin.

Hope this is not too many
Alice in chains, Pearl Jam, Creed etc.
Chicago (80s and 90s. Don't know about their earlier releases. Probably the worst imo)
...all those contemporary bands copying the great new wave bands of the 80s (Interpol etc). What's the point?????
...Gluecifer and other so-called "rock" bands (late TRBNGR, Hellacopters etc.). Boogie rock just ain't my thing...

With all the bands mentioned so far you can probably find at least one redeeming quality that saves them from the Pit of Eternal Damnation, for example there was that one song that Aerosmith did that was alright, Joe Walsh as actually quite a good guitarist and even Herr Schulze was in two damn fine bands before he went solo.
I was going to list a plethora of insipid American soft-rock bands that I have a particular adversion to, but once I typed the word 'insipid' I was reminded that the band I really cannot take in any shape way or form happens to be British: Simply Red. As soon as this lot appears on the TV I instinctively reach for the "mute" button then the bucket in quick succession. I cannot think of a single redeeming feature that they possess.

I think the following are annoying:
the Eagles Billy Joel Dream Theater Green Day Lil' John Ja Rule Nelly Kanye West 50 Cent Eminem Ludacris Styx Chicago Christopher Cross Lynyrd Skynyrd Eric Clapton's solo career Ziggy Marley Brght Eyes Audioslave post-1976 Rod Stewart Slayer newer Dave Matthews Band work (their early works are well done but I can only handle them in moderation), and hardcore DMB fans (just kidding!).
Anyways thats my thoughts.

Barry Manilow, Michael Bolton, Air Supply, Styx songs like 'Babe' or 'The Best Of Times'- that sappy, saccharine adult contemporary kind of thing sets my teeth on edge!
Have to agree with the nominations of 'coffee table' style dullards like Simply Red, Beautiful South and the like as well.
Most of what NME hypes up to the high heavens as being 'the saviours of rock and roll' (Arctic Monkeys, The Killers, Razorlight et al.) do nothing for me at all- 'the emperor's new clothes' is a phrase that springs to mind. 'Flash in the pan' is another seeing as most only last a few years.

I seem to despise System of a Down. Last week I said like 5 times, at my friends and in the car listening to radio something like "what the hell is this crap, can't we turn the station". And everytime the reply was something like "It's SoaD, and this is great" and they turn it up and sing along.
Yeah, I think, if you can't stand some songs, and they all turn out to be from the same band, that band can't be really good in your opinion. Up to the point where you rather listen to Impaled Nazarene than that certain band. And that band to me is System of a Down. And I hate how they're appreciated and loved because of all the things they do that make them suck in my ears.

I have been developing a serious distaste for Dream Theater (the Rudess years) and it really bothers me. They used to be my number two band. I also been reading on the WIKI about them and all the little things they throw in. Totally banal. Sorry Mr. T.
I hate Springstein and most of the Stones. Styx is for kids. The Eagles need to fly away forever. ANY RAP IS CRAP! I'd like to skin Lynyrd. Red Hot Chili Peppers have no spice.

Rap, as with many past "trends" tends to get "rapped" because of the typical "formula" acts that are pushed out when a particular type of music is the current fad. There are many interesting & intelligent rap artists out there. Unfortunately, the young white teen boy wannabe doesn't care for quality, just for image. Otherwise, the Roots would be the ones outselling 50 Cent & Ludacris. Oh, as an example, think back to the early to mid 70s when the labels put out more than a few execrable prog, hard rock & country rock bands trying to ride the then popular genres to hit status.

I honestly can't stand Guns'n'Roses. Everyone i know has been trying to make me listen to them, saying ill enjoy it. I've heard all their albums and i just don't understand why people enjoy it. Their place is tied with Nickelback, and every single one of their clones.
50cent and Missy Elliot deserve a mention because i can't help but laugh everytime i hear their names in the same sentence as the word 'music'().

I was so totally into Aerosmith in the mid-1970s; had their first four albums. My bubble was burst with them though when I found out that their guitarist (what is his name again?) did not do the lead solo on 'Train Kept A-rollin.' By 1977, I was much more totally into 70s prog bands and sold my Aerosmith vinyls at a garage sale.
My least favorite band is Metallica. They are commercial, glam, wanna-be-d-kind (you would say "d bomb" today) heavy metal band. Every song implicitly says "we are in this just for the money" and I can't stand that in a band...

It's a lot easier for me to list bands I hate then bands that I like...so let it commense...
Reading through the rest of the posts helped give me some ideas, but still...
Cypress Hill
Fall Out Boy/Panic! At The Disco/all other emo pop-punk
Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth,.....ok all thrash/death/black/hair/nu metal
Nickelback, 3 Doors Down, Creed, Pearl Jam, other bands that sound exactly like these
I'd list rappers, but rap is not music
Bubblegum bands of the 50s and 60s
Anything involved with Disco
Luckily I didn't get too specific, the list would be too long

Pop punk and emo bands that have based their entire careers on one Green Day album (Dookie)- I like Green Day, but they are not good enough to warrant two sub-genres worth of copycats. My Chemical Romance, Good Charlotte, etc. are slowly killing music. Why does my generation listen to such drivel?
Limp Bizkit- even nu-metal fans think they suck. Doesn't that tell you something?
Linkin Park- they make Limp Bizkit look like Yes.
U2- shut up and sing Bono. You make absolutely no difference. Live 8 raised no money. None. When you go to Africa the cameras don't focus on the poverty, they focus on you and your pretentious sunglasses. Musically I think they're pretty good however.
Axl Rose- way to kill one of the greatest hard rock bands ever, you egotistical prick. When Chinese Democracy comes out, go to the nearest church and pray, cause the end is near. Nice cornrows, by the way

I cannot speak for Pafnutij, but I'm listenning to Epica, Sirenia, After Forever, Tristania, Elis, Stream of Passion, Dreams of Sanity, Season's End, To Mera, Mercury Rain, Alas, Flowing Tears and (even) Lacuna Coil, and I'm affraid in that company the poor girl doesn't even come close - Amy Lee has a limited range, sloppy phrasing and cannot hold a note.

Compare her to famous singers like Janis Joplin and Joanie Mitchell.
Actually, I love her voice. It works well with what she is trying to accomplish.

I've spent enough time in Austin,TX to know that you have to be brave or stupid to critisize Janis, and I'm neither. But I guess Joni's up for grabs - nah, she's a great song-writer who knows how to write songs that fit her voice and I love Blue, Miles of Aisles and Mingus.

Amy Lee has a good studio voice. However, I've found that her
live performances are terrible. I do find it
amusing that you say she can't hold a note, but apparently don't mind
the singer from After Forever who can't even hit a note right a lot of the time . She has a lovely voice, but her pitch is off a lot.
Anyway, rock bands I can't stand:
Dream Theater (most of the time) - don't like their songwriting
The Presidents of the United States of America - don't like their songwriting or their playing

I can't stand ACDC or at least when people call Angus Young a great guitar player ....he's been playing the same thing for 30 years now
I'm not a Slayer fan at all. I think they are overrated. They pretty much played motorhead and venom while stealing king diamond's lyrics. Not to mension their personal religious hypocricies.
I hate almost all black metal music. Ideology and principals have clouded any sort of musical evolution or change within itself. Which is fine, just not my cup of Grey.
I don't like Gym Class Heros. Supertramp should never be recycled into a comforming radio hit single (imo).

I agree with all of that, but i like AC/DC ok, they are a little sold out though
I mainly hate Rap, mostly cause people call it music when it is not.
I hate disco and 70s pop singers, cause it is just idiots music
I also hate with a passion Nu(noo) Metal, bands like Slipknot, they have 8 or 9 members and still still cant make music.
and finally Death metal, simple music(soo simple its worth hating), crappy singing whats not to hate? the only band not qorth hating is Opeth, i dont really like them but they are progressive players so they arent quite death metal

You are obviously free to think what you want and like or dislike
whatever it is you choose however you should know the following things:
Rap is music.
Many people who like disco and 70's pop singers are not actually idiots. Also while disco may not be your cup of tea, it did influence a hell of a lot of music that was actually really good.
Slipknot does make music, its just really bad.
and finally, death metal is hardly simple. Yes it is simple in structure sometimes in that a stereotypical death metal song is based on a fast riff, cookie monster vocals, and drum blasts and a speedy solo towards the end. That's just a stereotypical death metal song and not only that they tend to move quite fast for several minutes (not always an easy thing to do whether you're the drummer, guitarist or bassist). Singing like that isn't easy either. Go listen to Cryptopsy and tell me death metal is simple. They do all sorts of wacky sh*t.

Anything from the following genres:
gangster rap
country
pop-punk/emo
disco
80s-present pop music
nu metal
mainstream rock (I don't know what to call nickelback, hinder, etc.)
From genres with potential, I dislike the following:
AC/DC... and I can't think of anything else that I actually dislike. though, there are many that are just "meh".

Actually there is plenty of complex and forward thinking death metal out there including their own Technical and Progressive Death Metal sub genres.
You just have to search but if you don't like the aggressive nature to begin with, it will be difficult.
however, if you like Opeth may I enquire Between the Buried and Me, Avec Tristesse, Agalloch, or Winds

I cannot stand The White Stripes (I still can't see the big deal about them), Marilyn Manson, Eminem, and ZZ Top. On the more frightening side, I have a hard time comprehending such a satanic band like Gorgoroth having any sort of a fan base. Really sad to see music being reduced to something like this.
