Topic: Bands you just can't stand... Posted: June 18 2007 at 17:19 |
Are there any bands the music from which you just can't stand, or even the band members themselves? What would be your least favorite band? Non prog of course, but also non-non-rock ( )... It would be easy to say "oh, Timberlake is my least favorite musician"... keep it rock please... and civilized..this has potential to grow into a bashing thread, so please, only name your band and some reasons...
Mine I think is Aerosmith. I don't think they're completely atrocious, actually a couple of songs border on decent, buty I just can't stand them. It's just impossible. i hear their music and have to turned it down or have some annoying 4 minutes. I just can't do anything with that band.

my first instinct would be to say DT, just to piss you off. That would not be true though as in all reality my least favourite band that I hate with all my heart and soul is slipknot, they have no tallent and fill their bands with a gazillion members, but worst of all people feel all hardcore and call them death metal, and so give my secont favourite genre a bad name.
it hurts it does.

Any heavy-duty prog band (Dream Theater, Flower Kings, but also nowadays King Crimson - while I love the 1970s ones, and partly also the 1980s). Nothing personal and I've also got no reasons for that. Just a matter of taste (and sometimes also of hairdoes)

usually I do too but hey, as long as people are civil and don't resort to namecalling and insulting people, things should be fine. let me just reiterate that for everyone else out there:

The T, I expected better from you. Negative threads are nothing but trouble.

Pain of Salvation. I really can't see what everyone sees in them. In my opinion they're overly cheesy and too pretentious for me to be able to listen to them.

When do threads like this ever stay civil?
Whoever someone names in this thread you will inevitably make someone who is a fan of that band mad.

Ok, ok...if it's so difficult to have a civilized discussion about what we don't like, close this thread please.
We're kids after all, it seems.

Personally, I have little sympathy with those who are easily offended over differences of opinion when it boils down to matters of taste in art. If they get mad so easily, perhaps they need to grow up.
There are plenty of serious issues in the world to get upset about.
Anyway, there's little music I hate, but I don't care for cock-a-doodle-do rock bands. If I want to hear a bunch of chickens strut their stuff, I'll visit a local poultry farm.

The starter said clearly: NON-PROG BANDS... (let's start not mentioning at least the bands listed here, no matter if they're really prog or not).
A second chance here.

Steven Tylers voice can grate on some peoples nerves, but I think Aerosmith had a lot to offer. They had a string of classic albums in the 70's and wrote some wonderful songs. 'Kings and Queens' springs to mind as well as 'Joanies Butterfly' and 'You see me Crying'
If they had taken slightly less cocaine, they could have been Americas answer to Led Zeppelin.

Hope this is not too many Alice in chains, Pearl Jam, Creed etc. Chicago (80s and 90s. Don't know about their earlier releases. Probably the worst imo) ...all those contemporary bands copying the great new wave bands of the 80s (Interpol etc). What's the point????? ...Gluecifer and other so-called "rock" bands (late TRBNGR, Hellacopters etc.). Boogie rock just ain't my thing...

With all the bands mentioned so far you can probably find at least one redeeming quality that saves them from the Pit of Eternal Damnation, for example there was that one song that Aerosmith did that was alright, Joe Walsh as actually quite a good guitarist and even Herr Schulze was in two damn fine bands before he went solo.
I was going to list a plethora of insipid American soft-rock bands that I have a particular adversion to, but once I typed the word 'insipid' I was reminded that the band I really cannot take in any shape way or form happens to be British: Simply Red. As soon as this lot appears on the TV I instinctively reach for the "mute" button then the bucket in quick succession. I cannot think of a single redeeming feature that they possess.
