Actually, I heard she has a crack team of editors that turn her bad writing with good ideas into decent writing. I'm not sure how true that is, however (probably not very, but it would explain why everyone passed on her).

I stopped at 3, and I would never read another one, but I vote other because it's good that kids are reading something.

My daughter went from reading Potter to borrowing all kinds of my books like The Lord of the Rings trilogy.Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever, etc.

So those books pointed her in the right direction at least.

Of course I know that most kids won't believe in magic or witchcraft simply from reading Harry Potter - but the combination of Harry Potter books, Harry Potter merchandising and the various fantasy TV series (Buffy, Charmed, Monsters, Ghost Whisperer, Medium etc) might cause young people to loose their touch for reality ... all these series are blending the fantasy elements with the real world, and *that* is what I don't like about them.

That's silly, there are loads of fantasy books out there anyway. It's like saying, I hope kids don't watch Teenage Mutant Ninja turtles, or they will believe in giant ninja turtles. I'd rather let my kids read about witches and wizards than I would have them playing shoot em' up computer games and seeing all the violence on movies.

Great books - they've also grown up with their readers; the first book introduces the main characters with a basic storyline... from there on, the series has grown more complex, and considerably darker in subject matter.

There's no shame for people of any age to be reading HP books & as Mystic Fred & The Progtologist stated earlier, anything which can get children interested in and used to actually reading a book cannot be all bad.

Here are some of my predictions for the new book: - don't read if you haven't read all the books
Snape is not evil (duh, it was Malfoy who had to kill Dumbledore, and Dumbledore only said to Snape 'please Snape, please' you just assumed as you were reading it he meant 'please Snape, no) I would be pretty suprised if Snape was the  bad guy

Either Dudley or Aunt Petunia is a wizard/witch. Dumbledores quote to Petunia and Vernon ' You've neglected Harry, but you've neglected your other sun even more' which could be seen as Dudley been a wizard. And Rowling also hinted Petunia would have a big role.

I think Hagrid is going to end up being a hero in this, I'm not too sure about Neville, but obviously he's going to do something very important.

Predictions for the new book, eh???

I forsee the death of one of the main three characters - probably Ron Weasley, and most likely at the hands of a Malfoy - deliberately if by Malfoy senior, accidentally if by Malfoy junior (eg a spell cast in anger without understanding its true power), and then only after he has finally declared undying love for Hermione.

As far as Hagrid is concerned, I think it will finally come out the he is actually a dwarf who is very clever with mirrors

Rowling has stated that much-beloved characters will perish in the final chapter of the saga.

I actually think it will be Harry.I think to kill Voldemort once and for all he will have to sacrifice himself.I think it's his destiny.

Overhyped, just because of the fact that there's much better stuff out there. I know that and I'm not even a heavy reader. As for the series itself, I loved it in the beginning but I lost interest after reading the 5th book. Just got too depressing for me I guess. LOL

The books are okay but for me I can only read them once because the second time round I can remember what happens and so reading it becomes a chore.

Which is why I've bought CDs where someone reads the book. Embarrassed

(That's possibly worse than rereading...buying a CD so you can listen to someone read it)

I read the first four books a couple of years ago, but then I lost interest. I kind of grew out of it, I think.

Which is why I think any attacks on them are misplaced. If you don't like them, don't read them: but at least be happy that they're reading and then might move on to something like LOTR. I think the magic argument is just silly: kids can tell fact from fantasy (I hope), and they know it's not real. Although the Occult section of Borders might tell them otherwise...

If kids read it I think its ok, its in some ways a good introduction for them to literature... what I dont understand is when people passed their 15th birthday still read it, I mean, my mother reads themConfused

I'm nearly 44 and I'm looking forward to reading the last instalment - whether a book is primarily aimed at a certain age group is irrelevant; if the book is well written, it can be enjoyed by anyone.
