PINK FLOYD — A Nice Pair
Review by
Finnforest
(James)
Another one of those obnoxious releases of previously released material, whose only
reason for existing is a marketing decision. Do not buy these kinds of products
because they only encourage record companies to do more of them.
Buy the two albums separately to be presented with the music and artwork in the
manner the band intended you to have them at the time of their release.

What's wrong with 2-in-1 releases? There's nothing wrong with going for the cheaper alternative...especially when you're low on cash. And they are easier to find than the actual album itself...sometimes Seriously I don't understand such reviews.

GENESIS — Wind And Wuthering
Review by
memark
Blood on the rooftops is one of my fave Genesis tracks. This also has One for the vine and
Afterglow. Also the instrumental sequence is great. Hackett blends with Banks and brings
magic one last time. Don't miss it.

This one doesn't say much.... In fact it is his longest review...all his reviews are really short and uninforming

MARILLION — A Singles Collection - Six of One, Half a Dozen of the Other
Review by
ZowieZiggy
(Van Stichel)
Prog Reviewer
At this time of Mark II Marillion, EMI thought of a brilliant idea. Let's have six great songs of
either Marillions and released them as a "Best Of".
Maybe to remember how great was Marillion before ? Before Mark II, I mean. Because
there will never be another Marillion than the Fish one, let's face the reality. Even if the
songs of the original band do not really belong to the best of their prog repertoire, they
are way better than "Cover My Eyes", "Easter", "No One Can" etc.
If some tracks could make illusion on individual albums (because they were confronted to
other very average songs), there is a huge difference here.
The choice to get an alternate true Marillion song and a Mark II one is staggering. IMO, it is
a rather poor idea. So, next time : the record company promises. You'll get a double CD
compilation : one with the best Marillion, and another one which you will never listen to with
Mark II songs. But this is another story.
Three stars for this rather poor compilation effort. It is useless if you are looking to the
great and powerful songs of Marillion and if you prefer Mark II (is there any one out
there) , I guess you would prefer a compil of their work only. But to do so you'll have to
wait for their "Singles 89-95" released in ... 2002 to do so.
Before this, only compil of the great Marillion at times mixed with Mark II songs. This is
significant enough.
Three stars for this one my friend (four / two if you see what I mean). I only grabbed it
because it sold for cheap.
This is rather unnecessarily derisive of the Hogarth era Marillion, IMO.

GENESIS — Calling All Stations
Review by
killerdeath
To me.......This is where Genesis really started to get good....Ditch
Gabriel......Ditch Hackett........Ditch Collins......We don't need them here.....Every
single song is amazing......The first note of Calling All Stations, to me, really
outdid their entire previous catalogue. I love it....In fact.... I'm sure if this CD
could talk to me.....She'd say she loves me too.... Maybe we would get married?
Oh well......LOVE IT!!
GENESIS — The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway

2 discs!?!..........I almost gave up on this album as soon as I heard that terrible
piano intro.but then......It struck me at the end......Silent Sorrow In Empty
Boats!!!! BEST-SONG-EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I must have played that songs 153 times
the first day i heard it.....Nice and short, but not too short.....Let's just say i dont
exactly LOVE this album......Only that song......The rest I think is pretty much
disposable....In fact......I did toss that first disc......There's no use for that
one....Enjoy your SONG!
GENESIS — Selling England By The Pound
Review by
killerdeath
OK.....I don't get it.....Why are some of these songs so long? There are 4 songs
that are over 8 minutes....Is this some kind of trick? I am usually a fan of 3
minute rock anthems. Another thing.....What in the world do these songs
mean....It's like they put some random words together to make a song....Nothing
compared to Invisible Touch.....This album, however, get 5 stars for the songs
"MORE FOOL ME"......Otherwise, I'm sorry Genesis, you need to gett it together
and do this one again.....
GENESIS — Foxtrot
Review by
killerdeath
I HATE This album!! Every song is perfect!! Makes me soooo jelous. Why cant i
make an album like this? I'm said to have a better voice than peter gabriel, drum
better than phil collins, and play better than tony or steve hackett. So why can't i
get a record label?? Thats exaclty why i hate this world. AND.... Why isnt my
band on this website? ITS PROG! You cant go 5 seconds on it without the tempo
changing! HELP ME JESUS
Somebody please do something about this blatantly sarcastic approach at making a poor review.

PINK FLOYD — The Wall
Review by
signify
For many people this one is a masterpiece... but not for me. There is few great songs like
In the flesh?, Another brick in the wall Part two, Hey you, Comfortably numb, In the flesh
or Run like hell. All the rest is weak and over-talked songs. This LP is too long.

Openly admits he doesn't own and never watched the DVD he is reviewing: RADIOHEAD — The Astoria London Live

To be honest with you guys, I'm rating this DVD to see if anyone else has a more
thorough opinion on it, because I don't own this material and I would like to know if
it's good or not, now on the contrary I've heard all the music in this DVD
though...Great stuff, everything from Creep to their more "Proggressive" stuff...And
may the reviews rain in for this I hope..

DREAM THEATER — Systematic ChaosReview by April_Ethereal (Etienne)
Oh well...let's give an objective review for once...
SC is far from the masterpiece everyone claims it is but hey, it's Dream Theater. Therefore it is a given that five stars will appear everywhere. BTW I used to be a DT fanboy.
I still enjoy albums like Awake, Falling into infinity, Train of Thought and Octavarium. These albums showed more maturity than this mess that is SC. Heaviness for the sake of heaviness, speed for the sake of being the fastest and make fanboys go crazy. Technical wizardry does not give an album more credibility by the way. It seems SC is adressed to a younger audience in search of such technicality.
Why rip-off bands like Muse (Prophets of War with its arpeggiators is soooo like Muse's Take a Bow" and Metallica (Come on, constant motion would have been relevant on a 90s trash album).
In the presence of enemies is nowhere near the other epics they have made, lyrics sound very rhapsody-esque ( another band I used to be a fan of but hey...I grew up). It's just speed and technicality, no feeling or relevant message whatsoever...
Forsaken is an OK track, I find it enjoyable although a tad cheesy.
Constant Motion is....a joke
The Dark Eternal Night is allright on its own...but I am tired of DT's 10-minute-ish songs...they ALL have the same structure(not prog)...verse, chorus, verse, chorus, instrumental part with shredding, outro....think Panic Attack, Sacrificed sons, Ministry of lost souls, etc,etc...anyway the song is a good rocker on its own
Repentance is THE ONLY TRACK that actually features subtlety ande nuance...OMG!!!! That's miraculous coming from these guys who like to outline everything VERY boldly.
Prophets of War is a good song by Muse....oh right I already said that one...still an OK track
The ministry of lost souls is good, sounds way too big to convey any emotion...huge lack of subtlety. For the song structure, please refer to Dark eternal night
This being said, some might actually consider this a masterpiece and your opinion is as valid as any. I think that after 20 years, DT should consider acting their age and make more mature music and start experiencing in subtlety. Heaviness is pretty cool sometimes but such a blatant use make this record pretty chaotic...haha sorry for the pun
Although thumbs up for the sound engineering by Paul Northfield, the record sounds crystal clear...making this album a good 2 stars...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Why that first statement? Oh, I know! Because this masterful reviewer (who should learn punctuation rules first) is the ONLY one capable of making an objective review, as , one can imply for his opening statement, ALL THE OTHERS WEREN'T. All the preceding reviews were either fanboy or hateboy, this, "for once", is an objective review.
The rest is fine, arrogant but OK. The rest is the typical "I see the light that you blind people can't"-kind of review, but OK, is his opinion. But that opening statement....Can't we delete it?
Man! It's so discouraging...

Of course, but even he can look past the mirror (which has a lot of moist and actually reflects a kind of ugly image at times) to see that some comments are offensive, but go untouched. He can see that the rest is OK, but the first statement is on the edge of being offensive. Specially to the thousands of DT fans around (He hasn't heard the album yet, so he can't give his opinion...but even if it's crap, why can't we get rid of the "an objective review for once" thing? ![Star](https://www.progarchives.com/forum/smileys/smiley10.gif)

GENESIS — From Genesis To RevelationReview by Progtrucci (Peter Gabriel)
I really don't like this album, the unique utility that I see it is for make a comparation with Trespass and get shock by the difference. I never count "From Genesis to Revelation" in the Genesis albums, because it's just a kind of experiment of a group of kids that fails.
I was wondering if this can be catagorized as a review?
