Bleiswijk, that's not far from where I come from. I come from Hillegersberg, orginally.

Hans, welcome to this cellar moldy cellar full of the best prog wine. One more Dutchie is more than welcome. Greetings from Best to Bleiswijk.
And in response to your question: I cannot stand Jon's voice, contrary to you, so I prefer Selling England, which is also my favourite Genesis album. |

I just sat through Selling England twice, just to be sure, however I do prefer CTTE, I'll tell you why: I'm not too familiar with proggy Genesis, besides I'm a sucker for long songs, whether it's Fela, Funkadelic, Klaus Schulze, Wagner (his operas could last more than 4 hours, the Ring is even more that 14 hours altogether). I don't mind as long as it's well written and as long as the whole thing works. Besides, CTTE (the song) as one of the best bass-riffs I've ever heard. And I really like Jon's voice, one of the most disctinctive voices in rock history (together with Michael McDonald's). I still think Selling England is a fantastic piece of work. Quite essential in fact. It just has to grow on me, I guess. Which do you prefer? Edited by unclemeat69 - April 21 2007 at 12:30 |

I am born and raised in Den Haag, first De Schilderswijk, then Mariahoeve and now Loosduinen, near the forest, dunes and beach (Kijkduin). My brother lives in Zoetermeer (Rokkeveen). Good to have some people from Holland here

welcome Hans, good to see the contignent of dutchies is expanding.
so i understand you play and compose music, professional, or just for fun, do you play in a band, and do you have a myspace account with songs on them if you are?
Agree on Frans Bauer's music, but he is a dear isn't he. I've got more problems with accepting Jan Smit.
And know for the million dollar question.
which do you prefer, Selling England or Close To The Edge?

Hi evrybody, I'm Hans. I'm a musician (guitar, bass, composer etc) with
quite an ecclectic taste, whch includes but it is not limited to: some
Metal (Slayer, Meshuggah, some NWOBHM), 70's P-Funk, some old rap
(especially the louder the uncompromising type hard dry beats),
classical music (Stravinsky, Varése, Debussy, Arvo Pärt, Wagner etc),
Miles Davis, Afro-Beat (Fela Kuti, very minimalistic groovy stuff,
30minute songs with a completely un-progressive approach, quite
enjoyable if it's your thng) and of course prog (mostly the old 70's
variety such as Yes, Magma, GG, VDGG, and some modern prog mostly TFK
and related stuff). I try to keep an open mind although there is some
music that I really don't like: C&W, dutch popular folklore (Frans
Bauer etc), German schlagers etc, you get the idea....there may be some
songs here that sound interesting, I just haven't found any yet.
I've been browsing this site for a while, I figured I might as well contribute at least in some of the forums, I may try and write some reviews one day |
