Kinda funny that people are most likely to interpret the thread title as "how highly do you think of yourself?".
That aspect is probably the most worthless thing about you....or is it? Only by our own perceptions do we apprehend reality, so a thorough judgement of our own worth is an appraisal of existence in entirety.

So anyway, I think I'm pretty worthless but you'd have to ask everyone who's ever known me before you got any kind of accurate answer. Most likely they'd agree, but you never know.

I personally suspect that Peter is worth more than most of us, combined. Wink

Hey James. Miss you bro. Smile

I'll be meeting Peter.... and Jimmie G this summer. After a few pints none of us will be worth a healthy tip for the waitress. Wink

Worth = Happiness. If you ain't happy, or content, life sucks.

IMHO, at least. Confused

What about art? Do you pay for music, or is that product of universally "worthless" humans also worthless to you?WinkMusic and art in general is the most useless thing in the universe...it serves no other purpose than egotistical ones (for the creator) and purely impractical ones (for the listener or whatever)... it doesn't help in the preservation and subsistence of the species which is the utter goal of mankind... mankind has no other goal but to... keep on being... and art is useless, unlike most any other prefession or human activity... BUT... is that useless-ness that makes art beautiful.... because it's the one moment we don't act having just our tangible guture as species in mind... is the one time we truly create... the one time we are like semi-gods.....

Humans have added considerable beauty to the world, via art.Yes... we don't need it... we're just more complicated animals, but you're right, and thank heavens for that.

If 'god" were about to exterminate us all, I'd use art (and other things) as a reason not to. Stern%20SmileProbably that would be one of his reasons... He would say: "I giveth you hands and brains so you could make this world a better place, but instead, you wasted your time creating paintings and sounds.... Thy existence is not more a necessity..."

If I felt as you claim to, I'd have to seriously consider suicide (please don't, though)!Ouch
Yes, please...At least before hearing my words...Big%20smile

I'd wager you won't always feel that way. I vividly remember feeling as you've stated, when in my teens/early 20s. Life can get better with maturity, finding real love, and working toward a meaningful vocation. Try to believe in yourself, and build a better future! For sure, and we hope it works out that way... People that have too much time to think in useless things like me end up either writing new philosophy treatiesd or going completely insane...or bothConfused..... My God whay are we so complicated when all we want is to keep on living? I have to give it to the people that just...LIVE. People that don't want to either achieve inomrtality or create art or be rich or glory or nothing.. people that just...LIVE.

BTW, is that cheery, murderous fellow in your sig pic you? Remember that guy from the goth site, who'd posted pics of himself with weapons, then went on a high school shooting rampage? No one spoke up or found the pics unusual..... ConfusedOh my God... 1-800-FBI-DANGER.... quickly!!!      Big%20smile

I've seriously considered suicide many, many times...LOL But I'll never do it so don't worry.

I do believe in myself, "I am god" as Mike(from Stranger In A Strange Land used to say... I feel like that most of the time. The most interesting people I know are on this forum - my peers are boring and cliched(I HATE teenagers), and in most people find shallowness and ignorance.

I agree that art is the best thing that came out of the human race.

No, that's not me in my sig. I'll have to wait another year or so for my hair to become that beautiful, it's only doen to my chin right now. It's Varg Vikernes(Burzum), creator of some of the most touching music I know, same guy as in my avvy. He's just screwing around with knives. Ironically, he did kill a man, but that incident was nothing special. Want me to change my sig? There are more appealing pics of him.Smile

He's nothing scary, on the contrary, the essence of coolness.Cool

I assume that's what happens when you surround yourself with medieval cultural traits, such as honor and justified killing.

From Varg's story: Euronymous hated Varg for becoming more popular than him and plotted to kill Varg, about which Varg found out, went to Euronymous' house to tell him to f**k off, where Euronymous attacked him(first), which resulted in a fight in the end of which Varg killed Euronymous. A stupid teenage quarrel that has nothing to do with honor or medieval culture

I quite got the impression it was about that sort of thing, not expressedly mentioned. He seemed to brush killing a person off far too lightly.

^Yeah, he doesn't feel too sorry about it, but then he feels it was provoked by Euronymous, which it kinda was...

Yeah, but on the other hand it's not bad, maybe he'll release a couple more yummy albums in the classic style unlike the last two synth-only albums(the only instrument he was allowed in prison...)

Nah. he's not. He only makes everyone look smarter around here (to the outside world).

And he's certainly not worthwhile when it comes down to threads like these.

That was an interesting case... I think I'm going to translate it and bring it to my criminal law teacher for her to analyze it.

I actually meant physical appearance/hair by that...Wink

But once again, the Euronymous incident is nothing special, and it has nothing to do with his beliefs or attitudes. The church burnings... well, all kids screw aroundLOL That's the part of Vargs biography I actually resent to be honest. Otherwise I relate to him in many ways. and I adore his music.

Reading all of that story made me even more interested in listening to Burzum (I heard the name many times and I became curious, but this story took the cake).

If I die, you all cease to exist, my family ceases to exist, the WORLD ceases to exist.. it may be true that it doesn't happen, and that when I die, everything keep on going, nothing changes, you are still alive, my family is still alive, the world is the same place, just one person short. But there won't be any way to prove it before you die, and once dead, everything dissapears. If I die, my whole world dies. I'm the reason everything else outside of me exists. So I am worthwhile only because I am so for myself. In this illusion that live is, I'll try to make other people's lives better, at least those that my influence can reach. But the fact still remains that my demise will bring the end of the world for me, and, ergo, for everything. I won't be around if that's not the case and, anyway, the only world, reality that matters is the one I perceive. So I CAN"T let myself die because I'd be putting an end to everything. So I'm worthwhile. At least for that and until the time to end the illusion arrives.

^The music is nothing aggressive, It's very atmospheric, ambient Black Metal, not heavy and very emotional in a melancholic way, inspired by Norwegian nature and folk legends. Did you read the whole story or just the Euronymous part? He talks about the influences in the origins and the music sections. The whole Burzum story is interesting, it's in the Library section. I'll "recommend" you an album soon

I think I have some family friends that make me pretty damn worthwhile right now though.

Since we are all part of this great universal organism, we all have value. No one is worthless. You can't devalue a part, without doing the same to the whole.

Cool. Thanks! I only read the story though, but it was a very interesting read. I read the reviews of his 1994 release and it sounds like an album I would enjoy. I'll add it to my wishlist as well. Smile
