Kayo Dot is Avant-metal actually, perfectly prog. I believe that that's the genre you should check out, since it's as different form Iron Maiden and Dream Theater as any of the bands on your list

Its funny cause i dont see placebo as indie, for me indie is (of course from independent labels) music with experimetation but not to much, like Butthole surfers, or Neutal milk Hotel or Sonic Youth, things like placebo is the crap that mtv try to sell u as interesting or noveau |

I don't even know Placebo... standard intie is kinda boring, I prefer the more challenging stuff.

Well, I wasn't too sure about Placebo being called "indie rock" anyway , but that was not my main point. By reading your posts I notice that you have a very negative attitude towards a lot of music. I was the same once, but after a lot of trying I finally managed to be able to enjoy many different kinds of music (jazz, classical, hip-hop, metal, etc.) and it really was a liberating experience for me. But I admit that it took me quite an effort to get there. (Re Placebo in particular: while I do quite enjoy some of the music they make, I was bored out of my mind during their concert at the Lowlands festival last summer. Too bad, because I had been looking forward to it. ) Edited by Joren - March 15 2007 at 17:45 |

Fantomas are as prog and as challenging as you can get! I like all of their albums, Millenium Monsterwork is the only one I haven't heard yet.
All hail Patton |

One page ago you wrote: "Sonic Youth (why they aint here?, come on listen to Murray Street and tell me that isnt prog)". You change your mind quite quickly! I have music from both bands (Idiot Flesh and Sonic Youth) on my pc; I just haven't yet found the time/urge to listen to them. Edited by Joren - March 15 2007 at 18:05 |

Welcome.
Hectic at the moment, I'll just repaste a message I wrote before in a Prog Metal poll since it fits: [I really like] "Kayo Dot's Choirs of the Eye. You might enjoy Estradasphere (listed under this site as Avant Prog) -- good chamber rock! http://www.estradasphere.com/ For what it's worth, a favourite Prog metal album I know listed under that category here is Indukti - S.U.S.A.R. [Check out the sample: CLICK HERE] Lots of borederline metal and metal-influenced music (Sleepytime Gorilla Museum for instance or Taal) I like even if I'm not really a fan of metal (experimental/ Avant Prog metallic stuff I like). I enjoy Prog for the eclectic range of influences and metal is a major influence in lots of Prog these days." No, I don't care for the Metallica stuff, nor do I like the neo-progish sounding metal. |
