Well after a long time reading polls and reviews on this website i decide to check in, so i am gonna talk about myself a little bit (like if someone care)
I am 17 years old, my interest are: of course music (mostly avantgarde, krautrock, post rock and some alternative or indie bands (mostly the ones that really have original sound)), i also like to read (from Oscar Wilde to George Orwell plus Anne Rice, Lewiss Caroll, Asimov and a lot more stuff) and art in general (painting, theater, performance, etc)
My favorite bands (in no paricular order):
Pink Floyd
Neu!
Frank Zappa
Sonic Youth (why they aint here?, come on listen to Murray Street and tell me that isnt prog)
Idiot Flesh / SGM (they are almost the same but idiot flesh is funnier)
Mr Bungle
And my favorite albums (in no paricular order):
Meddle (Pink Floyd)
Murray Street (Sonic Youth)
Fancy (Idiot Flesh)
Heretic: Jeux des Dames Cruelles (Naked City)
Disco Volante (Mr Bungle)
The Aeroplane Over The Sea (Neutral Milk Hotel)

Well cause i am cool im gonna leve a link to download the Idiot Flesh albums, i think its legal cause the albums are imposible to find  (out of print) Link removed by admin

Big%20smile
Bonus Track: I hate Metal ( but i am not saying it is crap( the only crap is hihop or corporate music), f**k, just  understand i dont like it!!!!!!!!!
READ THIS PLEASE
Well i really wanna apologie if i offend anyone cuase i think i am being reaaly bipolar, what i really think of metal (not progressive) its that i find it a bit to steriotipical (riff, Guitar solo, and sometimes chorus or orchestation that sounds preety similar especially in power, heavy, and gothic) or death metal bands made of a single riff, i really hate that stuff cause its really repetitive (IMHO), about progressive metal i have heard this bands: Dream theater (complete dicographie, i cant stand this band is like a creative masturbation i really hate them) Opeth (just some song, i dont like it but not really know why), Atheist (Complete discografie Great, complex, fast, unpredictable)Lacrimosa (complete discographie kinda love hate relation), and thats all (and the avantgarde hybryds, wich i love), i think cause half the bands i have heard i find boring (or jus dont like it), but i most listen a bit more to say that i hate / love / be indifirent to  prog metal however mi attitude against (not progressive) will remain the same
Thanks for your understanding
Forgive my english, i mostly talk in spanish

I am neu! there by the way

Hi! And welcome, Guillermo!

Do you realise that there is a good deal of metal in both Mr. Bungle, Naked City and SGM?

Well yes but they dont make songs based on a simple riff and a guitar solo, or are clones from Death or Iron Maiden (its just my opinnion but i think all metal its like this)

Welcome Lestat. Hug

A great list of bands, but I am sorry you dislike metal.

A very ignorant generalization showing that you haven't heard almost any metal.

If you would have listened to more (kinds of) metal, I don't think you would have thought this way then. Not all metal bands are Iron Maiden or Death clones. Although I myself also love a good deal of songs that are based on a simple riff with a guitar solo, there are lots and lots of metal bands out there that make very complex, sophisticated and/or inaccessible music. Besides, I am not a Death expert, but I believe they have recorded some pretty complex music as well.

LOL Thanks for the support, Ansen, but I don't believe that I possess/know (the way towards) "the light". Wink I "just" like my music. And that includes different kinds of metal. Approve

I use to be a metalhead....
I listen from Metallica (earlier albums) to necrophalist and i see all metal bands like pretecious guys(see how fast i play) (Dream Theater, Rhapsody, Stratovarius Necrophalist, Slayer)  or songs made from a riff and a solo (iron maiden, Judas Priest, etc all the bands from the glorius days of black metal (mayhem, hell hamer)) i think the only metal band that i can stand is Atheist (guys playing the music they like and  amzingly original)
crap. i think everyone hates right now...Cry

Try Meshuggah (the EP called "I" is pretty amazing), Fredrik Thordendal's Special Defects, Isis, Tool, Fantômas, Ulver and Maudlin Of The Well. I think at least one of those might make you change your mind, and make it possible for you to appreciate more metal again.

Why don;t you try digging deeper into prog metal: Kayo Dot and Agalloch for a start.
And look further into black metal: ever heard of Drudkh or Burzum?

Here, listen to the ProgArchives sample of Agalloch, http://www.progarchives.com/Progressive_rock_discography_BAND.asp?band_id=1933

And one from kayo Dot: http://www.progarchives.com/Progressive_rock_discography_BAND.asp?band_id=1870

Be honest now

Kayo Dot is indie, in the original meaning of the word. That is, a band operating through independent labels. Wink But nowadays "indie rock" is also known as a particular style of music, associated with Radiohead, Placebo and many others (because those bands started out on independent or "indie" labels). That kind of indie, it is certainly not.

I still don't agree that kayo dot are anything to do with metal. That's probably why we like them so much, your taste seems pretty cool :D
